Enjoyable & Interesting Read,

I got this as a free download for my Kindle and really enjoyed it.
I don't really want to say anything about the plot beyond what is stated in the blurb. Since this is a novella going beyond that would give too much away. I will underline that the main character is a teenager, so I'm assuming this is a start to a YA series. But that didn't detract from me enjoying it as an adult and I thought the teenagers were well-drawn. Not hokey or ridiculous like many teens are portrayed. My Soul to Lose is really short and is billed as a prequel. So it really only gives a taste to whet your appetite and set the stage. Some people might find that brevity irritating, because no explanations for anything are given. You discover as the story goes along, but don't get any answers about What or Why. That will probably come later in the next release, which I am guessing will be a full length novel. I found it all to be quite intriguing because of mysteriousness though. The story sucked me in right away and it's written so that you follow along as the events unfold with Kaylee. No background to speak of, no extraneous details, you're just right there with her as she has to deal with her situation, which includes ending up in the mental ward because she reports experiencing things that sound exactly like the symptoms of a schizophrenic. It was great getting to read this as a free Kindle offer and it has done its job because I plan to buy the book when it is released.

Ended too soon,
This review is from: My Soul to Lose (Soul Screamers) (Kindle Edition)
I wasn't sure at first if I was going to like this. I thought it might be too much of a teen book with the girls hanging out at the mall but it did get interesting pretty quick. Waking up in the psych ward, and why the main character was sent there is a little freaky. The way it ended left me curious to know more as if I had just read the first couple of chapters of a book then lost the book. I liked it in the end and I'd say it is worth a read.

Didn't Give Enough,
This review is from: My Soul to Lose (Soul Screamers) (Kindle Edition)
My Soul To Lose would have gotten a better rating from me, if A. the book actually answered some of the general readers' questions, and B. Didn't make the attempt at sucking you in with a cliffhanger. The plot has great potential for the series, and the writing was well done in my opinion. Also, I thought the characters were realistic and down-to-earth. However, I don't think it's worth buying the other books in the series, and I kind of found it irritating that the author left you with no answer, and a cliffhanger that went "Will she ever find out what's happening to her? Find out in ___!" I do suggest reading it, since it's a kindle freebie, but as for the rest of the books in the series, your time is better spent checking them out from a library.

I see a lot of complaints in other reviews that could be cleared up if they knew a bit more about this series. This is not a portion of a book, nor is it missing information. This book is a prequel. It is meant to be read after "My Soul to Take". It merely provides a little of the backstory that is alluded to in Book 1 of the story. Once you know what you're dealing with, I think it makes a lot more sense. I really enjoyed "My Soul to Take", and likewise enjoyed this as well.

Silly me, I didn't realize that this was just a quick look into the background story before what will take place in the yet to be released My Soul To Take.
It was interesting and got me hooked, but then it was over. I still had questions about Kaylee and Lydia and I'm not sure if those questions will be answered in the next book, but I will probably purchase it and find out. It's free, so nothing to lose, but just be aware that it is just a teaser to get you hooked into the series.

It's a teaser. You're supposed to think it's a book, but it drops the story right when it gets interesting. It's supposed to lure you into buying the book. Fine, but be honest about it!

Well Written but Not a Complete Story,
By
This review is from: My Soul to Lose (Soul Screamers) (Kindle Edition)
I picked this up as a freebie as it really sounded like an interesting premise. I don't usually read YA fiction, but this seemed different. I knew it was a short novella - and it is quite short. What I wasn't expecting was the opening prologue of a novel. I expected this prequel to be a stand alone story which would lead into the series - but this did not read like a stand alone tale.
It was well written. I enjoyed the way the characters were developing. I also enjoyed the narrator's voice; it really captured the voice of a teenage girl quite well. The story line itself is well conceived and part of me is curious where it's going.

The actual series is much better....,

I read this mainly due to the fact that I was interested in the author, and it was free, but once I started reading I realized that the premise wasn't one that I had seen hashed out before. Even though the book does end abruptly, and the scenes with the other psych patient were a little weird(/unneccesary?) I feel that this prequel does set up the rest of the series, and having read the next book, I can definitely say that the series is worth reading.

Now I'm hooked!,
This review is from: My Soul to Lose (Soul Screamers) (Kindle Edition)
First let me say that I gave this book a 4 star only because I am now completely hooked on this series! I had read the prior reviews and knew about the cliffhanger ending. Despite that, I was fully invested in the characters and the story. Great marketing to offer this "taster" for free. I know that it is certainly getting me to purchase the subsequent books in the series.

I ordered this since some reviewers thought it was good, and it was free. I've had some success with free books, but this was not a complete book. It was not simply a full length book with a hint at the end that sequels are to come. It was more like the sample that you sometimes get of another book at the back of a paperback. Don't order this thinking you'll get a good book to finish.
