5.0 out of 5 stars I Heart Wanda and Darryl., May 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: My Space: Baby Blues Scrapbook 24 (Paperback)
I've been collecting these books since 1990, when my first child was born. I have gotten a laugh on days when it seemed like I'd rather cry. My oldest son has the same personality as Zoe. My second son is much like Hammie. My third son would kick me if I said he was like a baby girl, but he does bring us the same joy and love that Wren brought to her family. (Figured I should add that my #3 son is 11 years old. He's in a "girls?? Phooey!" stage)

The battles that Wanda and Darryl take on are Everyparent. The kids are not always well behaved, the house is often messy, the parents are often tired and cranky. In other words, NORMAL and FAMILIAR.

I missed seeing goofy neighbors Bunny and Butch (kind of wondering how those twins are working out), I missed seeing Rhonda, the grandparents, and all the other supporting cast. Hopefully there will more of them soon.

Great job, fun read, my kids fight over who gets to read it after I'm done. You should see how they are with a Zits book. :)

Yep, just like it was when raising kids. Only I didn't see the humor in it then. Now that I have grandkids, I see them all through the book. Love reading the books and sending clips to my kids. Do you remember saying to your kids... someday, when you have kids of your own... well this book helps me remember what I went through and what my kids are now going through with my grandkids. Love the books and the strip.

This may be the 24th collection of the comic strip, but it is still just as funny as ever. Of course, part of that is because the characters continue to age. Zoe and Hammie are still in elementary school, while Wren is still in diapers.

The beauty of this strip is that the humor is so true to life. I may not have had these conversations when I was a kid, but I could picture almost having them.

There are about 7 months worth of strips here with the Sunday strips in color. While there are no real story lines, we do meet a new friend of Zoe's who lives with her great-grandmother and see how parents enthusiasm for milestones diminishes with each child.

I'm not a parent, but I still find the humor in these strips. If you have kids or have ever been a kid, you'll love this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the Baby Blues!, January 4, 2010

I love the Baby Blues. I love it even more when I get the big lol that brings tears to my eyes. I got a couple of those from this book. I also recognized some "recycled" humour from previous books.

I enjoyed this! This comic is for adults, as much as it is for kids! Parents will see their own experiences mirrored here!

4.0 out of 5 stars Spend Some Time With the MacPhersons., May 1, 2009

Playing on the name of a now-dying social network site, MY SPACE is the 24th Scrapbook of "Baby Blues" comics. I'm not sure why it's called a scrapbook, because the book is a collection of comic strips and that's it. There's no introduction, additional drawings, notes, or anything else. There's just the comic strips. There's about eight months worth of comics in MY SPACE. I'm not sure when these comics first ran in newspapers, but I'm guessing they cover from late 2007 through early 2008.

"Baby Blues" is more of a traditional comic. It follows the lives of the MacPhersons, Darryl, Wanda, Zoe, Hammi, and baby Wren. It kind of has the same vibe as "Zits", another comic strip that Jerry Scott writes. The big difference is that "Baby Blues" is about a family with three small children whereas "Zits" is about a family with a single teenaged child. I like "Baby Blues" better of the two strips. I find it more funny and the humor to be more universal; there's so much about adolescence that is very specific and adolescent humor usually doesn't age very well, but family and parenting humor does.
