Lots of Fun - Aliens Never Looked Sexier, November 26, 2002

This film does not deserve the tepid and poor reviews given by the users of this site. The cast works so well in an ensemble in this movie that although you know the story is not possible, it is somewhat believable through the characters' performances. Lovitz is always excellent in movies, masterfully delivering comic relief when the audience needs it. Akyroid is always convincing as a scientist, and Bassinger - let us ignore for a moment she is intoxicatingly gorgeous in this movie, she does a stellar performance as the sexiest ET alive. This role was meant for Bassinger - she has that perfect balance between intelligence and innocence, and shows it on-screen.Buffy fans, if you watch this film only to see Seth Green and Alyson Hannigan, you are only after a very small piece of the pie. Their scene together is very short but entertaining, and most definitely early evidence of their talents. I'll say it again. Although the basis of this movie is unbelievable, the cast makes it as believable as possible with their seamless performances. They draw you into their world. Take this movie as it was meant to be taken: It is a fun comedy. Although it carries a PG Rating, adults and children will find it entertaining, and it is always refreshing to get a movie the whole family can watch.

Sit down,relax ,and enjoy this fantasy!, February 1, 2000
This movie was not taken seriously by most critics ,but, does it matter?Of coarse not!This film pleases me because of the fantasy.Kim Basinger is gorgeous as Celeste,the alien who comes from a world where sex is non-existent.The reason why she comes to Earth is because Dan Akroyd,who portrays a scientist, can save her dying planet.She marries him(without him knowing her secret) to find out the "cure".But,one day,his daughter finds out she`s not from this planet. The thing about this film that makes you laugh is Celeste`s purse who teaches her about our everyday habits(how to kiss,make love,etc.).This film is fun to watch!

One of The "Big Four", September 17, 2004
There are four movies that serve as the pentultimate example of how to effectively utilize the comedic genius of Dan Aykroyd, a man who I will remain a stalwart fan of for all of my days. The movies are "The Blues Brothers", "Trading Places", "Spies Like Us" and of course, this film.
"My stepmother is an alien' is the tale of an astrophysicist(Aykroyd) who mistakenly penetrates an alien world when he sends a signal from his lab one stormy night. Soon, a beautiful denizen of that planet (Kim Basinger) arrives on earth in order to convince the scientist to send the signal again so that her world might be saved. The scientist..who is a lonely widower with a teenage daughter- falls in love with the sexy ET and marries her- thus the title.
This is a fun movie, filled with top notch performances by its cast (Jon lovitz has an extremely funny early supporting role as Aykroyd's brother, and future Buffy alumnus Alyson Hannigan plays Aykroyd's daughter), and a genuinely amiable wit.
The key to the film is that director Richard Benjamin understands that he has DAN AYKROYD as his star, and he plays on that. Aykroyd demonstrates such energy in this film that his performance probably WAS picked up by an alien radio in a another galaxy. His character is immediately likeable, and he plays off of Basinger very well.
As the title creature, Basigner is actually quite funny and charming, and the result is a fun little picture that may not set any new standards, but nonetheless delivers the goods with a solid one-two comedic punch. This is worth many repeat viewings. Add it to your collection today.

Alyson Hannigan-WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG!!!, June 22, 2003
This is just a fun movie that anyone can enjoy. The plot-an alien (Kim Bassinger) comes to Earth to study the planet and in doing so falls in love with a scientist (Dan Akroyd). But things are not all sun and fun! Dan's daughter (played by Alyson Hannigan!) suspects things are not all gravy on the home front and investigates his new love interest. Needless to say-hilarity ensues. The best part of the film is the scene when a really young Seth Green comes to take Alyson on a date. Buffy Fans!!-You'll really like seeing Seth and Alyson together. Rent the movie if you see it, you'll have a good time.

This is a good classic movie. Better than some crap today!, July 30, 2004
This movie is great. I remember watching it when I was really young. Im 21 now and still love it. Yeah some things are corny but that is part of what makes it great. Its not suppose to be realistic. Its fiction! I just realized too that the daughter is the girl from American Pie which makes it even funnier. Overall this movie is pretty good. If you dont care for the story, atleast get it to see Kim and the other chicks in the movie. If you've never seen the movie, just buy it. Its about the same as renting it a couple times and you will be able to keep it. For all you people who rated it a 1 you have issues!

Now That's A Nice-Lookin' Alien!, March 27, 2009
Here's a ditsy but humorous and generally likable movie that sports the best-looking alien I've ever seen: Kim Bassinger.
Basinger hardly ever looked better, which is saying a lot. At the time, it was unusual to see her in a comedy after viewing her in tough crime or sex-type movies for awhile. (I didn't see this film until 10 years after it had been released.) She's a decent comedienne, like her ex-husband (Alec Baldwin) has turned out to be, too.
The comedy is more chuckles than guffaws. For parents wondering about the film: there is the usual too-liberal "values" espoused here, such as sex on the first date is "cool," and a few other things involving a cute teen daughter. The profanity isn't too much, except by Jon Lovitz, who provides much of it. In all, a dumb story but a nice, feel-good ending helps.

Alyson Hannigan is adorable!, October 9, 2008
I got this movie thinking it would be really stupid, but I wanted to see a young Alyson Hannigan. She did a phenominal job with the part, and the rest of the movie was really good too.

Great Fun Movie. , August 14, 2008
The story of a Babe-Alien coming to earth to meet the eccentric nut-scientist is just pure fun. Silly, and sometimes senseless, it is very entertaining and warm too. GET IT.
