5.0 out of 5 stars Stoke of genius
I've listened to it three times and gain more insight each time. I am in the rehab field. Love to hear it from the patients point of view

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a happy camper.
I ordered an audio tape for my Brother's Birthday and after 4 weeks, had still not received it. I was told 2-3 weeks. I had to cancel my order, purchase it from another vendor and apologize to my brother that his present would be late.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting information, but redundant writing, February 28, 2009
This review is from: My Stroke of Insight [AUDIOBOOK] (Audio CD)
I listened to this audio book last week. The science and insights are fascinating. I can see how having a stroke would be much less scary if you knew exactly what was happening and had faith in your brain's plasticity to heal itself. Also, hearing the author talk about her experiences in terms of right brain, left brain was intriguing.

But, even though this is a fairly short book, Dr. Bolte Taylor repeats many things too many times: how much sleep she needed after the stroke, how she needed people to be really nice to her, how she was overstimulated at the beginning by almost everything - especially loud voices, how a pure right-brain experience is blissful, how we all can access our right brains any time we want. Those are all useful pieces of information, but hearing them two or three times would have been plenty.

Also, this book is so good the publishers should have invested in a professional reader. Dr. Bolte Taylor is a competent reader, but her voice can be monotonous and nasally. I found it hard at times to put the next CD into the player - not wanting to hear her voice any more.

Over all, I really, really liked this book. The author's experience and her ability to describe it are informative and ultimately reassuring. But I would recommend reading a hard copy of the book rather than listening to the audio book.
