5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, June 5, 2008
This review is from: My Summer on Earth (Paperback)
Meet Clint Eastwood. Not the famous actor that everyone has heard of, but the space alien that has just arrived on earth.

Clint is only supposed to be on earth for a short amount of time, all because of his mission, which is to find and take home one of his own. This other alien had previously came to earth, defected, and then stayed around to become a famous actor in Hollywood that everyone knows and loves. This actor just so happens to have the same name as the newly arrived alien.

Before arriving, Clint, who wasn't named Clint at all until he heard the name, had to choose a human suit, since aliens are only a "mist of electrical waves and molecular activity." After the scientists that helped Clint choose a body that seemed like the younger version of the famous actor, they had to program in information dealing with humans and what they do on earth. Then, after leaving his home and his father, who didn't approve of the mission or anything Clint does, he is on his way to a place that is so foreign to him.

Arriving successfully on earth, everything goes according to plan. Clint is able to breathe on earth and even makes a new friend, Kip, just in the few minutes since he had arrived. But of course it doesn't always go exactly like it's supposed to, since Clint feels something that he has never known: love. He has only heard about it through the scientists and has never experienced it, because reproducing in his world is all done through technology.

This little thing called love just may make history happen twice.

Outspoken and somewhat naive, MY SUMMER ON EARTH and its main character makes this the most original and hilarious novel ever. Written as a log, the events and obstacles that Clint goes through are priceless and should be told forever and ever. This is a novel that is highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious and hearfelt, May 6, 2008

I bought this book because the cover was so eye-catching. I'm not a teenager, and I tend not to read too many teen book because they're mostly about high school dating or weird horror movie type stuff that doesn't relate to me. As for this novel, I can honestly say I haven't laughed out loud like this in a while. Many books make me smile, but this one had me giggling in that way that's physical. My favorite part of the book is the relationship between Clint and Zoe, who's actually a real character. Not a lot of males seem to know how to write females.

There's too much here to discuss, but in general I recommend this book not only for the laughs but for the whole alien coming down to our culture aspect. Actually, the other alien in the book is a Hollywood actor, who's intensely funny. But I especially like the parts where Clint, the main alien character gives away all this money and the homeless people don't make good use of it. It's truly amazing. I just finished this and I want to say that. There's a huge heart at the middle of all this.
