Poetry books are always great to have. My 4th graders love reading poetry, especially funny poetry, and I love that they're reading. It helps students with their fluency by rereading the poems over and over and they're doing this on their own.

My third grade students love all of Bruce Lansky's poem books. The books are invaluable because not only do they expose the children to poetry, but the students find them so funny that they want to read them over and over. The humor is often cheesy and low-brow however the kids can relate to the topics.
