5.0 out of 5 stars A must for teachers of the very young!
If you teach early childhood (includes grades pre-k through third) this is a book you will definitely want to add to your collection. From greeting the children each morning to walking them to the bus in the afternoon, this book thoughtfully outlines all the reasons a teacher is a child's friend. 2.0 out of 5 stars Took too long
I ordered this book with several other books from various vendors. I am a teacher and wanted it for the first day of school. I received all of the other books a good week before I received this book and needless to say I didn't receive it by the first day of school. I went out and bought another copy.

If you teach early childhood (includes grades pre-k through third) this is a book you will definitely want to add to your collection. From greeting the children each morning to walking them to the bus in the afternoon, this book thoughtfully outlines all the reasons a teacher is a child's friend. In addition to viewing the teacher as a friend, this book is great to read at the beginning of the school year because it highlights the fun activities found in most early childhood classrooms (i.e. star of the week, storytime, holiday fun, and more). P.K. Hallinan is a master at being able to identify with the young child, as well as being a gifted poet.

This book is probably the best teacher gift that you could ever give. It really shows how important the relationship between teacher and child is. We can all remember a favorite teacher from when we were a child, that really impacted our lives in some way. This books shows that side of teachers to our children, so they can see that teachers do what they do, because they care about them, and it shows teachers how much their very special jobs are appreciated. It is a very heartwarming book, as are all of P.K Hallinans childrens books. He has a way of saying exactly the right things, to explain different life lessons to children, in a very sweet, fun, and easy to understand way. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome purchase, December 31, 2011

I was not familiar with this book at all but I must say I am thoroughly delighted! As a teacher this book is a great introduction into the life and rules of school! I enjoyed using this book because sometimes parents forget to talk to their children about authority figures in school and out of school. Within the realm of school it is important for children to acknowledge that their teacher is a there for them sometimes students may see the teacher as the enemy but this book quickly dispels that myth I would highly recommend this book for other early childhood classrooms.

This book was a great opener for the first day of Kindergarten. The children were engaged, talking about the things we did the same at our school. Loved it!
