About the Author

Crystal Bowman loves writing books for kids. Her books come in all shapes and sizes and many of them have become best sellers. Whether her stories are written in playful rhythm and rhyme, or short sentences for beginning readers, she tries to make them so enjoyable that kids will want to read them over and over again. 'But the most important part,' she says, 'is to teach children that God loves them and cares about them very much.'

You can find Claudine diving the oceans with Technicolor fish, camel riding in the Sahara, trekking in a jungle populated with wild monkeys, or exploring the African savanna in search of huge elephants. Although adventurous, she sometimes gets scared when coming upon a giant spider or other scary beasts. At that time she heads back to the comfort of her studio, where she draws all the wonderful things she saw and dreams of her next visit to faraway lands.

Make this Thanksgiving special for your very little ones by sharing this book with them. It is a Thanksgiving prayer from a child's perspective. Written in rhyme, the verses give thanks for things children think about and can appreciate: food, family, and nature. The text is short and simple, with words and images children can understand and relate to.

Here's a sample:

Thank you, God, for birds that sing
and mountains standing tall.
For rivers, trees, and bumblebees -
Lord, you have made them all.

The illustrations in this book are painted with bright, bold colors and project a very child-like quality. Every double-paged spread, except one, contains a single picture. The other two pages contain three pictures that are painted to look like photographs. The book itself is a boardbook, cut roughly into the shape of a cornucopia.

What I Like: Everything. The shape of the book captures your attention since, as mentioned, it is shaped like a cornucopia. The bright illustrations, with a decidedly orange theme, are cute and heart-warming. With only two sentences on each page, youngsters won't need a long attention span to enjoy this book. And the fact that it's a boardbook will make it easier for little ones to turn the pages by themselves. This is a great book to introduce your youngsters to all the things we have to be thankful for.

What I Dislike: Nothing.

Overall Rating: Excellent.

Age Appeal: 4 and under.

My mother-in-law works as a librarian, so she's always giving our son books. For Halloween the year he was about 1.5, she got us "My Happy Pumpkin". He loved it SO much that we got this one for Thanksgiving the same year, and he loves this one too! The illustrations are bright and fun, and the stories are simple and clear. The book rhymes, too, which is a plus for us. I highly recommend these as quality books with a quality message that kids and parents will like.

My 18 month daughter loves this book. It's so cute, that I read it this year at the family's Thanksgiving table in lieu of the usual prayer. It is a prayer itself, and it is clear, sweet, and to the point. Very easy for her to enjoy, and it also helps me to get her to eat every night because she loves how I read the line that thanks God for "potatoes, corn and meat"!! Great book. ALso, as a single mom, I appreciate that there is no direct reference to mom & dad, just a large family around that table that could represent anything you want: grandparents, siblings, or just cousins. In one scene, there is a couple on a swing, and my girl looks at them as her grandparents. I highly recommend this.

Excellent Book. The big size and bright colors makes it very easy for even the smallest babies to be drawn to the colors. We are now reading it again, 2nd year, and toddlers love it. The sturdy board book is easy for their little hands to turn pages, and the art big so they can point to all the images (bug, dog, boy, girls, flower, etc). One of my favorite books for them.

This is such a great book, as are all of Crystal Bowman's books! I love the way she shares the Christian message in a way that children can understand. The illustrations are beautiful. I read this to my young preschool class each year. It holds their attention as it is easy to read and very colorful.

I generally really like Crystal's books and her Easter one is one of our favorites. This book was disappointing because it's not really about the holiday of Thanksgiving, and more is just prayers OF thanksgiving. The prose is cute and everything, but there are a million other "thankful prayer" type books on the market and we have several of them. I would not have purchased this one if I knew that's all it was, simply because it duplicates what we have already. If you don't have a book like that, this is a good one, but it's not truly about the Thanksgiving Holiday, which is what I was searching when I bought this book.
