One Class Act for the Blues,

This review is from: In My Time (Audio CD)
If you love Charlie for his signature blues harp sound
then this album may start off a little slow for you because it starts with 3 of 4 tracks with Charlie solo-guitar&vocal- but on the upside his vocals are in good form and his guitar playing-including slide-is very traditional sounding. But don't worry there's plenty of that blues harp playin'you'd expect from true-blues-master Charlie! You can treat those solo tracks as bonus tracks because there are a total of 16. The liner notes refers to 1950's style blues but do pay attention to "Please Don't Think I'm Nosy" with its more modern righteous groove, great blowin' on the shuffle "Blues, Why Do You Worry Me?", and I don't think anybody could better emulate James Cotton as Charlie does on "Movin'& Groovin'." Also, a very impressive and soulful rendition of Russell Ferante's "Revelation"(instrumental). He works with two bands here, one for the 50's sound and the other his touring band of the time plus some back vocal assistance(on 2 of the solo tracks)from The Blind Boys of Alabama.
