My Very First Art Book is set up with a work of art on the left hand side of the page and an art activity to try on the opposite side (see my uploaded images). The title of each piece and the artist are listed along with a one to three sentence description of the style. The activities are very simple, clear and beautiful so even the youngest learner can experiment. An example is Tropical Jungle with Monkeys by Henri Rousseau with an activity of jungle prints by using leaves that you paint and print to make flowers, butterflies, birds and bugs! There are about twenty pieces of art shown in this 48 page book and multiply project ideas for each one.

There are many excellent art books such as Discovering Great Artists by MaryAnn Kohl but I would choose this book FIRST even though her book has more pages for several reasons:
-Everything is in full color with the layout being clean and simple so it is not overwhelming to the student or teacher
-Color photos of the paintings and other art work are of a larger size than other books
-Projects are easy enough for this youngest learners on up but the end product is as pleasing to the eye as the process to the hands
-The book is just beautiful to the eyes and I enjoy just looking at it

Sections in the book:
Drawing
Painting
Printing
Cutting and Pasting
Models

Sample of 20 Artists included in the book:
Rembrandt
Degas
Franz Marc
Marc Chagall
Henri Rousseau
Matisse
Tony Cragg

This book follows a two page spread format for a variety of different forms of art. On the left, an artists' work in featured and explained and on the right is a project for the child to do using that artists' technique. This has been a wonderful book in our homeschool classroom.
