My Walking Stick
My Walking Stick hasn't come out of the CD player in the car since I got it. The style reminds me of the R&B music of my youth, but with Jim Brynes' flair. Love it!

I own all of Jim's CD's. This one is me second favorite. "That River" is my favorite. He is just an awesome musician & song writer. What talent!

I enjoyed a few of the songs on the CD, but overall it would not be one of my favorites.

A.K.A. Joe Dawson,
This review is from: My Walking Stick (Audio CD)
While Jim Byrnes has always been a great musician, I didn't "discover" him until he played the Watcher, Joe Dawson, on Highlander The Series, although some might remember his role on Wiseguy. However, his acting takes a backseat to his music.
Byrnes has one of those gravel voices that lends itself to his style. Took me a while to listen to all the tracks because I liked "Ol'Rattler" so much. The songs aren't strictly blues, like some of his other work, but also include a blend of jazz, as well as a 50s vibe on "Lookin For A Love." I was just as impressed with the lyrics -- conveying several themes of love, life, and loss. I actually preferred this album to his House of Refuge; My Walking Stick covers more musical genres, where House of Refuge was a lot more gospel. Some of the songs from That River were "performed" on Highlander...and that was how I got interested in Byrnes and the blues in the first place.

This is Jim Byrnes at his best. Good old fashioned rythem and blues with byrnes' own stamp on it.
Every piece of music he does just continues to improve and if you enjoy real music, I highly recommend this for you. |
