Don't waste your time on this book or any of the others in the series because they are based on the storytelling of a self-glorifying man who claims to be telling an accurate story of his life. The story is historically inaccurate and probably has very little truth in anything we are told.

I read this because I had just read (and loved) "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and wanted to know more about the island and that time period on the island. "My War, Part IV" was billed as the story of the man who had been "Sent to Guernsey to supervise its transition to peacetime, he must determine the fate of accused war criminals and collaborators including Angelique and her very sexy mother." The author just wrote down what he was told and did his research later only to discover that almost everything he had been told was a lie. The distortion of truth is so ridiculous that it makes you wish that you had been told at the beginning that most of the "facts" are inaccurate. Even if you had paid your money, you would have at least been spared the time wasted reading the book(s).

The book comes from the remembrances of a self-centered old man who apparently thinks he should tell others the intimate details of his life. The stories smell of untruth all the way through. We find out at the end of book four that his life is unbelievable because the man is a liar and the book just records those lies.
