3.0 out of 5 stars Antiquated But Fascinating
This is a fascinating look into rural German alternative medicine in the late 19th century. The first half of the book is devoted to "Meine Wasserkur". Extremely interesting but an almost entirely useless practice to a modern reader except for two concepts that I will not share as I do think that anyone interested should buy the book. The second half is far more useful:...

Well first of all I already have this book translated in Russian and even tough that book has more information. This book about waterhealing was written in 1894 just think about 112 years ago Sebastian Kneipp found that every dieses can be cured with just cold water . I like this book very much however I put 4 stars because quality of reprint is poor , sometimes I could n't understand what some words mean. It's very easy to harm yourself if you don't know how to use cold water for your good . This book will guide you . I use cold water showers in the morning and in the evening and I feel myself great.

This review is from: My Water-Cure (Paperback)
I received this book earlier today and completely devoured it in half a day's time. I really loved the book. The only complaint I have is that Amazon in the description noted the book as having 420 pages when the reality is that it only has 395 pages. I give the book 5 stars but hope that Amazon corrects this error.

The second half is far more useful: an overview of the properties and uses of various herbs and plants plus an extensive list of diseases and how Fr. Kneipp used to cure them. This alone is worth the price of the book. I am glad to have it in my collection but doubt that I will reference it very often. For most it will simply be a medical curiousity.

UPDATE FEB. 16, 2011:

I was going through my old Amazon reviews and came upon this and agree with 3 out of 4 people that this is a very unhelpful review. Not quite sure what I was thinking. I haven't read this book since the original review but I will reveal here and now what the secret "water cure" is: cold water. Cold water applied to various parts of the body for various times. Fr. Kneipp cured himself of asthma as a child by swimming in freezing cold water every morning and came to believe that cold water was a cure-all. That is really it. It is a very interesting book even though, as I said above, probably just a medical curiousity for most. I can also tell you that I come from a German family and that everyone had a copy of some Kneipp book when they arrived in America. Or so my grandmother tells me.

Have I tried the Water Cure? Yes. Way too cold. All it did was cure me of the need to try it again.
