About the Author

Dan Gutman has always been a baseball fanatic. He played in Little League as a kid, and one of the first magazine articles he ever sold explained the science behind the spitball, the scuffball, and corked bats. When he thought about the T206 Honus Wagner—the most valuable baseball card in the world—he began to write honus & me, his first Baseball Card Adventure.

Dan is also the author of the New York Times bestselling Genius Files series, as well as the internationally bestselling My Weird School series.

Jim Paillot lives in Arizona (another weird place) with his weird wife and two weird children. Isn’t that weird?

More About the Author

This is hard. I'm a pretty regular Jersey guy who spent fifteen years trying to write newspaper articles, magazine articles, screenplays, books for adults, and just about everything else before I discovered the one thing I'm good at--writing fiction for kids. I aim for kids who DON'T like to read, and hopefully the kids who DO like to read will enjoy my stuff too. For all the gory details about me, check out my web site.

Bought this book because it looked cute and fun, but became disappointed right away. I had to edit it as I read to my son. Every page has the word "dumb." It is full of insults and name-calling and shows lots of disrespect to adults. Not a good example for young kids.

Terrible language! Every chapter is littered with words like "dumb" "shut up" and "stupid," I understand kids will say these words but they are used so excessively the kids in the story come off as disrespectful and bratty. Also, there are a lot of references to hurting one of the little girls, the main boy can't wait to "wham her in the head" with a dodgeball and "wishes a backboard would crush her." Very disturbing!

Format: Paperback
The author of this trash is clearly trying very hard to relate to young boys, so much that he can't resist indulging himself in every boyhood stereotype he can exploit. According to just the first ten pages of this book, school is stupid, boys love sports, girls are stupid (particularly about sports), and when you call your peers names and make them cry, it's their own problem and you needn't apologize for it. Don't be misled by the book's cute title; your children deserve better than Mr. Gutman's pandering.

I picked out the audio version of this book based on its jacket description. It was totally misleading. This book is filled with cruel language and crass "humor" that I could not tolerate - either for myself or my children. In an age of bullying, how every page of a book can be peppered with kids calling each other "stupid" and "dumb" is beyond me. We didn't finish the book and do not plan to; instead, it's only value was to teach my kids that the behavior exhibited is not to be modeled. There are SO many better book options out there for young, curious readers.

Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!

I've been reading this series to my kids before bed. Both kids are reluctant readers. My daughter, a total athlete, particularly enjoyed this one. My son has enjoyed them all. In fact one of these, Ms. Sunny is Funny, is the first book my daughter has EVER read voluntarily.
