Book Description

Never before has school been this mixed up—or this much fun!

Could Mrs Roopy, the new librarian, be A.J.'s craziest teacher yet? When the class shows up they find her dressed first as George Washington and then Little Miss Muffet. And Mrs Roopy won't even admit that it's her! Can A.J. and his class help their very troubled librarian before she does something really crazy?

4.0 out of 5 stars Gutman Hits it Well, but it Goes Foul November 16, 2004
    Format:Paperback
This is the third in Mr. Gutman's new series and it was by far my first-grade son's favorite of the three. The narration by AJ, the reluctant school-goer, is engaging and the character of Mrs. Loopy is well-drawn and entertaining. Throughout the book Mrs. Loopy makes attempts to liven up books for AJ in order to turn him into someone who doesn't hate books. Judging by how well the author lured my son (a reluctant reader) into the book, Mrs. Loopy met her objective.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am an elementary school teacher and found three parts of the book objectionable.
    1) Mrs. Loopy pulls up her shirt to show a tattoo to AJ and his classmates.
    2) AJ and his classmates break into Mrs. Loopy's office instead of lining up with the rest of their class.
    3) In the last chapter AJ grabs Mrs. Loopy's shirt and pulls it out in order to have visual access to her belly button.

An enjoyable read, but be aware of those parts before you read.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! February 13, 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition
A.J. is a kid like you, and he hates school.
But he's got a librarian who thinks that she's different book characters!
The third book to the series, this is quite entertaining! When A.J. and Co. get a new librarian, Andrea thinks she has some sort of split personality. Because who runs around school with a George Washington costume on?! It's an epic showdown between Mrs. Ropy and A.J. to get him to enjoy reading. Will he ever learn to love reading? Maybe the gang will get proof that mrs. Roopy is all the characters popping up around school and get her DNA. But it won't be easy! Elementary school kids will love A.J. 'S weird adventures around school!

I ordered the first five books from My Weird School and My Weird School Daze by Dan Gutman after reading the entire Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey to my two grandsons, ages 7 and 5. I really did not know if any books could be as fun for them as Captain Underpants, but they both love the Weird School books and find them humorous and entertaining. I enjoy reading these books to them and I know that they will be able to go back and read them on their own at a later date. I highly recommend these books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Son loves the series March 2, 2011
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My eight year old loves this series. We are trying to entice him into reading more. This series is something that we can discuss, wondering what AJ will do next. I have my son read the title and first page of every chapter and we are working up to having him read more, as I read to him. His reading confidence and skills are definitely improving. The story lines keep his attention. It takes about an hour (for mostly me) to read out loud.

Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!

My 2nd grade son loves these books. He thinks they're hysterical, I think they're kind of dumb but anything that keeps him reading gets five stars from me.

    More About the Author

This is hard. I'm a pretty regular Jersey guy who spent fifteen years trying to write newspaper articles, magazine articles, screenplays, books for adults, and just about everything else before I discovered the one thing I'm good at--writing fiction for kids. I aim for kids who DON'T like to read, and hopefully the kids who DO like to read will enjoy my stuff too. For all the gory details about me, check out my web site.
