5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful December 1, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I first experienced Justin Bieber on a road trip. Nothing else to do, I gave his tracks a listen. I found a new favorite artist for two or so years.

With a few exceptions, the tracks on My World 2.0 are insanely well-done. "Baby" became a mega-hit for a reason: it's catchy and the lyrics remain smooth throughout. The interlude from Ludacris "Stuck in the Moment" expresses disappointment without falling into self-pity. It's actually mature and reflective. "U Smile" takes a different turn, toward soft and cutesy melodies.

While Ludacris provides much of the strength for the first track, the album falls shorts when other collaborators enter the picture. Perhaps because their voices and personalities clash with Justin's, Jessica Jarrell and Sean Kingston take away from the impact of "Overboard" and "Eenie Meenie" respectively. "That Should Be Me" represents as much frustrated longing as a teenager can be expected to muster.

This album is delightful. It's also a bittersweet collection, because I know his voice will never sound like this again, and his lyrics will never be so carefree. If you appreciate who Justin has become, it's time to find out how he got there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Music is many things to many people... April 3, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
"The Music Industry is officially dead!"

Its a proclamation that is made by every generation since the invention of the radio, and it was likely going on even before those entered our homes. And each time there is a truth and a falsity to the statement. The music of that generation very often is dead, or at the very least relegated to a position other then the weekly top 40. Its just the way of the world. What I really don't understand is: why so mad?

Bieber (if that's even how its spelled) is more of an archetype then an artist to those of us not in the target market he is aiming to associate with. There is no denying this, nor is there anything actually wrong with the implications of the statement. That's life. That's how it always is and will always be. The young need voices from their own time to retell the old tales: love, betrayal, self-identification, growing up, etc. While those of previous generations may feel that artists within their time did it "better", the truth is that they are blinded by the very thing that "blinds" the kids of today. They want and need a speaker from among their peers.

And what is this rubbish of mocking and humiliating ones children for liking a pop artist? I don't care how bland, generic, sappy or bubblegum the crap might be -- that is simply cruel. Especially if they were actually trying to share the music with you. Music is such a deeply individual and personal thing that people need to have their own unique and individual opinions regarding it. And yet it is also such a social and societal thing with certain songs and artists, when one looks back, being able to represent a specific stretch of time. Its no better if, for instance, you tried sharing The Beatles with your kids and they went "Ew.

Goddammit Biebs, please turn off the garbage disposal, I'm trying to write a review here... oh wait, that's your music?????

Look, if you're going to disagree with this review and you can't accept me having a different opinion, stop reading this review right now. You aren't going to change my mind and I wouldn't dream of changing yours.

Justin Bieber is everything that's wrong with music today. His songs are generic run-of-the-mill R&B love songs you can find on any Usher CD, and his high-pitched annoying girly voice doesn't help much either. Has it seriously come down to this? That men with girly voices are what gets successful and sells a million records nowadays? If so, sign me up for on the "We are eternally damned" petition. The crap has officially hit the fan.

I'm sure plenty are bound to comment on my review with "Yeah but he's successful" or "Girls love him". You don't need to tell me that. I know he's popular. So is fast food, and what do both have in common? They poison your insides and they rot your brain. You have "Baby" where the title is repeated at lest 823763930373464923204723975027525720572348057023790435829 times, and the vomit inducing "Somebody to Love", which is a retread of pretty much every song out there. That, and it doesn't help that he has some whiny emo on the particularly hilarious "That Should Be Me", which tries to be depressing but is so melodramatic and over the top, it makes the "OOOOOOH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars What!?! March 25, 2010
By MK8604
Format:Audio CD
I liked the single Baby but the whole cd is not good at all. It's one of those cds that by the end of the song you already forgot about it. This album could've been better than this. Don't get me wrong he does have potential so hopefully his next album, if there is even one, will be better maybe once he gets a little older.
