Trisha and Cyndi are both from the peach picking state of Georgia, so perhaps it is no surprise that Cyndi regards Trisha as her musical idol and that their music has some similarities. Having said that, Cyndi's album - and her voice - are sufficiently different that she might have been a major star even with Trisha still around.Whether Cyndi would have become a major star, we will never know because she quit music to lead a normal family life. History is littered with singers that couldn't cope with the pressure so we must respect Cyndi's decision but it is disappointing, especially as so many talented singers aren't given a chance at a second album. The booklet pictures are reassuring for country fans with several showing Cyndi down on the farm, usually with a picnic basket but there is also one showing her feeding pigs. This might suggest an ultra-traditional album - in fact, the style of the album is contemporary but still rooted in country rather like her idol. This album gave Cyndi a number one country single (What I really meant to say) but the two that followed it (I always liked that best, I'm gone) were markedly less successful. Nevertheless, the album sold well (over half a million copies) and Cyndi would certainly have been allowed to continue her recording career had she chosen to do so. There is a great selection of songs of varying tempos, many of which Cyndi co-wrote, though there is also an excellent version of I'm gone, a Kim Richey song. This album demonstrates (if you need evidence) that country music can be both contemporary and of a high quality.

Artist. Not many pop stars, celeberties, and musicians of our time come close to being an artist. But Cyndi does. An artist has something worthwhile to say and if they are musical artists say it in a beautiful way. Cyndi does both. This is a wonderful collection of songs and her voice is really a delight to listen to. She changes tempos and uses her voice as a musical instrument to pleasing effect, so rare in today's music. I always liked that best is a very sensual song, for anyone with an iota of true feeling it will be sexier then a 1000 years of Britney gyrations. This is clearly a young woman of depth and talent. I am not a 'country' music fan, but I can't even thing of a group out there who would not enjoy this CD. Great for everyone, especially people who love clear and wonderful female vocal singing. I look forward, already, to her next release. I just ask for Cyndi to keep displaying the depth inside her and the money will follow and she will remain an artist...and I will keep buying.

Cyndi Thomson's debut "My World" is certainly an album of well-written songs that seem to have a personal ring to them. She delivers them in a breathy, if not average, vocal style, reminiscent of veteran Faith Hill and newcomer Jamie O'Neal. Although the CD is well produced, there is a need for more balance in her repertorie. Several of the tunes almost sound alike in feel and arrangement. With that said, it is still an extremely enjoyable CD to add to your collection. The first single, "What I Really Meant to Say" is poignant, touching and honest; the beautiful "I'll Be Seeing You" is delivered very emotionally; there's a nice originality and buoyancy to "There Goes the Boy", and a gentle sadness to "Hope You're Doing Fine." The title track spells it all out, as Cyndi is obviously proud of her Georgia heritage. Expect great things from Cyndi, as she sings from the heart.

The best debut album ever by the best artist ever!,

I have been a Cyndi Thomson fan since the first time I heard her outstanding hit single "What I Really Meant To Say" and have been waiting for three months for this album to come out. Let me tell you... this CD was worth the wait. "My World" is a beatiful collection of songs and 9 of the 11 tracks were co-written by Cyndi. She has so much incredible talent and is also totally pretty. Songs on this album vary from the poignant first single "What I Really Meant To Say" to the sassy and spunky Kim Richey pinned "I'm Gone." Other highlights are the slow and pretty songs "I'll Be Seeing You" and "If You Could Only See" to the fast and upbeat "Things I Would Do" or almost comedic "There Goes The Boy." Every song on this album is a treasure and my favorite and I just wish I had the time to talk about each one. Anyway, don't hesitate...buy this album ASAP... you will not regret it. Cyndi Thomson Rules!

I have listened to as much music as anyone my age, and much of the new music of recent years is mediocre at best. But I absolutely love this cd. Cyndi Thomson has such a nice sounding voice she sounds like she might be the girl next door singing on her porch. Nothing pretentious, just good music from the heart. Once in a great while I hear a song that sends chills right up my spine, such as when I hear "Independence Day" by Martina McBride. The song "What I Really Meant to Say" does the same for me and should be voted best country song of the year. But this is not a one-hit wonder; there are several other really good songs. I especially like "My World" and "I Always Liked That Best." I'm tired of all of the electric country rock sounds. Cyndi Thomson has some nice acoustic background on many of the songs. I saw her on the Grand Ol' Opry with just an acoustic guitar for accompaniment and it was wonderful. For a breath of fresh air buy this cd.

The Next Big Thing,
By Chris S. "cscotts" (atlanta, ga United States) - See all my reviews

With country increasingly becoming pop, and country radio littered with really bad pop filler, the term "country-pop" has been subscribed to such snooze-inducers as the once potent Faith Hill and LeAnn Rimes. With MY WORLD, Cyndi Thomson is poised to change all that. Armed with a clutch of exquisitely melodic tunes, she has the potential to really change how people look at the term country-pop and what that term entails. Though first single 'What I Really Meant To Say' is a definite gem, that only grazes the tip of this iceberg. Thomson co-wrote eight of the set's eleven tunes, and she has a profound ear for pop melodies and harmonies, beautifully layered throughout the album. Of the remaining three tracks, keep your eye on 'I'm Gone', from the pen of the slyly clever Kim Richey(Thomson actually sounds as though she's channeling Richey vocally throughout much of the track). While the honeyed Southern accent that creeps through the cracks of many of the songs is garnering her comparisons to Deana Carter, her voice is far more sturdy and pliable than Carter's slightly thin instrument. It's hard to pick standout tracks, though my personal favorites are 'I Always Liked That Best', 'I'm Gone', and 'But I Want To'. Probably the most significant female artist to come out of Nashville since Lee Ann Womack, this is a must for country and pop fans alike. If you don't have it, get it, and if you don't, then shame on you.

I just don't get tired of any of Cyndi's songs. I can't believe she won't be coming out with another one, because she is such an honest, truly memorable country singer. So I'll have to just continue listening to this CD and enjoying the pure, touching lyrics. Buy this CD and listen to the whole thing twice. I guarantee you will love it!!!

Great Debut!,
By Jake Z "holden84" (Canada) - See all my reviews

The truly sad thing is that Cyndi has given up on her music, because she did not want to take the pressure of coming up with a second album. Her music will be missed but this CD will always be a nice reminder. The first single was the poignant "What I Really Meant To Say", which touched a lot of people (myself included). Same goes for the ballad "I Always Liked That Best" which was the second single, and another hit from the album. The third single was "I'm Gone", which did not fare as well as the first two. The strongest track is the ballad "If You Could Only See", which she wrote for her father, a very sad song. "I'll Be Seeing You" is a bittersweet ballad about trying to get over someone you once loved. The strength of the album in my opinion is the ballads, but there's some fun uptempos like "But I Want You", "My World", "Things I Would Do", and more. Definately an excellent album start to finish.

One of the best CDs I own!,
By
This review is from: My World (Audio CD)
This is most definitely one of the best CDs I own, and trust me, I feel pretty strongly about my music collection. My World is just an awesome CD. Whatever you're looking for--it has it! Upbeat, catchy tunes? "Things I Would Do", and "I'm Gone". Some slower stuff? "I Always Liked That Best", "What I Really Meant To Say" and "If You Could Only See". Don't know which mood you're in? "There Goes The Boy" and "My World" are some nice in-betweeners. Cyndi's voice is beautiful on all of the tracks; it almost has a hypnotic quality. I literally could listen to "If You Were Mine" twenty-four hours straight. In my opinion it is the best track on the CD. Bottom Line: If you are in to today's country, then BUY THIS CD!

This girl kicks some good ol' country booty!,

I find it hard to believe this is a debut album. Cyndi Thomson's first is rock-solid country at it's best. Trying to top this album might be futile. This lady is going to become a household name within the next year or two. "I always liked that best" is eerily smoothe and seductive. When I hear "What I Really Mean to Say", I sometimes think I'm listening to Shania Twain sing one of her slow, deep-voiced ballads. This album is a gem from top to bottom. Put on your headphones and indulge yourself with this one. Well done Cyndi!
