Book Description

February 17, 1997
The Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray tells the story behind the making of his three films, the "Apu" trilogy. Completed shortly before his death, the memoir covers the key aspects of his career: his decision to give up a lucrative job in advertising in order to make his first film, early setbacks, a chronic shortage of funds, the guidance and support of directors such as Jean Renoir, his solutions to problems, and the acclaim for his films at home and abroad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read, March 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Comment on the product: I bought a used paperback version from one of the used/new sellers, which was in pretty good condition.

Content: If you are a fan of Satyajit Ray or if you are planning to make your own first film, I would recommend this book. His account of the making of his first film is pretty impressive and inspiring. I did not get the same feeling about the other two films in the trilogy, as he seems to have made them relatively easily due to him being an established director by the time those were made.
