Arika Yumemiya, the 14-year-old heroine of the shojo (girls') series My-Zhime (2005) wants to become an Otome, a supernatural combination of lady-in-waiting and royal guardian. She arrives at the prestigious Gardenrobe Academy (a cross between Hogwarts and Mahora Academy in Negima!) completely unprepared, and immediately alienates both Nina Wang, the top student in the school, and Princess Mashiro of the Windbloom Kingdom. Although she's had zero training, Arika demonstrates enough raw talent to win a spot at Gardenrobe. She's injected with nanomachines that enable her to summon the costume and abilities an Otome-in-training needs. Like many shojo heroines, Arika is a well-meaning klutz, who comes from behind through sheer determination. She also possesses mysterious powers linked to her sapphire pendant: could Arika be the long-lost princess? Although it involves some of the same characters, My-Zhime is not a sequel to Mai-Otome, but an alternate adventure.
