quite handy!,

purchasing this product was prompted by 1. my television set dying and 2. my mom upgrading her pc which included a new cinema display lcd and so had her old one to spare... since i don't use a tv for anything other than watch dvd's and play video games i used the opportunity to seek out an analogue video to vga converter. after checking out a variety of products online and off i ordered the v2vpro since it seemed to be the least fussy and the clear winner in terms of price (others were upwards of $150 or so)... considering the inner workings of analogue to digital video signal conversion (and how very wrong it can go) this little device does a rather good job! the default settings left a bit to be desired but after some tweaking using the on screen display menus, i adjusted the brightness, contrast, saturation, resolution until the output from my playstation 2 was quite satisfactory... so, about $40 and a few days of waiting (the seller automatically upgraded to priority first class at no additional cost, which was a nice surprise) my mission of replacing my tv and granting a second life to a secondhand lcd panel was accomplished.

Great for playing older games on your HDTV!,
By
This review is from: MyGica V2VPro Video to VGA Converter / Video Switcher (Personal Computers)
I bought this device because I wanted to play my older games (such as Dreamcast, Playstation 1 and 2, Nintendo 64, Genesis and SNES) on my HDTV. The problem was that my HDTV, like many HDTVs, has bad "game lag". Game lag occurs because your HDTV is busy converting older signals (like from RF, composite cables and s-video cables) into HD quality 480, 720, and 1080p. You might not notice it while watching a DVD movie, but try playing a fighting game or a rhythm based game and it'll be a frustrating bad timed mess.
This device does all the work, so your HDTV doesn't have to, and you don't have game lag. No more "you press the button on your controller and about half a second later your character reacts". Menu is easy to navigate, although a little slow. It works through a VGA cable, so make sure you 1) have a VGA port on your TV. 2)BUY a seperate 15 pin male to male VGA cable (this one doesn't come with it) and 3)make sure your TV can switch between normal and widescreen modes of display. Mine can, and setting this device to 640 x 480 with S-video makes my PS1 and 2 games look great. So those frustrated that they can't play older games on their HDTV because of game lag, GET THIS DEVICE, it fixes that so you can play your games on any HDTV with a VGA port!

I had purchased a DVD recorder/player/TV tuner that I mistakenly assumed would output to a VGA monitor that I wanted to connect to it. Anyhow I should have realized that would not be the case. So of course I started looking for a unit that would take the component output from the unit and convert it to VGA. I was pleasantly surprised to find the V2VPro at such a reasonable price. It was shipped to me way before I thought I would receive it, and it works great.

Best price I could find. Size is about 4x6" Fairly easy menu for set up.
I use a S-video cable from my Directv standard box to the device and hook up VGA connector from my old 19" CRT monitor to the device. It comes with a power supply. You can set the video ratio from the menu. Be aware it does not process sound. You will need another system for sound. I use a 900 mhz wireless transmitter with red and white RCA feeds from the Directv box. The two wireless speakers and the subwoofer receive signals from the wireless transmitter. I have all of the power supplies pluged into one protected power stick (except the directv box, as it needs constant power). When I turn on the stick it all comes on.

Turn it into a video display of course.
I replaced my old 21" Trinitron TV with a 21" NEC CRT display. This amazing little box takes the crummy composite video signal from my DVD player and bumps it up to 1024 x 768 resolution non-interlaced. Wow! No scan lines. It also takes an s-video signal but I haven't tried that yet. It take a bit of fiddling to get the picture just right but the on-screen menus are easy to use. The picture looks slightly processed but in a good way. You will actually be able to read those tiny credits at the end of a movie. Best of all, its cheap.

Excellent video-to-monitor solution,

I needed a video monitor near my mythtv server to test changes in the linux-based DVR before. Unfortunately, I didn't have any extra TV screens. However, I had several 19" computer screens lying around. Hmm. If only they could be used to display s-video or composite.
A-ha! Enter this little wonder box. It's quite compact, yet extremely effective. Actually, I was not really expecting very much from it - primitive control and jerky or otherwise crummy video. NOT AT ALL. This little gem is absolutely wonderful. It took the video I gave it without any problems, and spits out what resolution I desire. The video quality from S-Video source is quite good, and exhibits almost no inter-frame jitters. I really never would have expected it to work as well as it does, especially at its price. The only thing I haven't really tested is a video source of poor stability -- ie, VCR. That might still cause trouble, I can't say one way or the other. But if you need video, and your source is solid, and only have a computer monitor, buy it. It's cool.

I use it on the LCD monitor for ps2 games, once you get it set up it's no big deal.
However, when performing settings it turned off on me now and then, but I got it working for good. Several different connectors, s-video in/out,Av cable input, VGA output,Audio input as well.

The V2V Pro is a great product considering there isn't many devices of this type in the market. You can search everywhere and not find one product that can do what this little gadget can do. Most stores like Best Buy or Frys don't carry it. They only have PCtoTV, which is the opposite of what this gadget can do. This works both ways.
My set up consist of DirectTv Reciever (Standard) -> Via S-Video/Input -> V2V Pro -> VGA/ Output -> Hannspree 22" Widescreen HD Monitor. I recommend using other ways to transmit audio such as a stereo via audio/RCA. Video Quality: If you use this to convert a TV signal, there is no difference between the composite and s-video. Considering this is an up-scale converter your picture will be slightly pixelated because it is stretching the picture. But overall you cant complain. There are no scan lines either. To best way to describe the picture its as if watching a video online such as from Hulu or Fancast and expanding it to full screen, but with a better quality to it. This is not a HD converter. I decided to buy this because I had originally used my monitor for my XBOX 360 via HDMI. But recently had direct tv setup. I had no choice but to take down my monitor and use an old 19" flat screen tv. The big box piece of junk. So then I bought this so i can have my XBOX and TV on the same monitor, since my monitor supports HDMI/VGA. This product is great. I recommend it, but don't expect perfect picture quality. Remember it is an upscale converter. It adjust itself to whatever its VGA output cable is connected to. Its price is reasonable. For its class of device, consider it a great deal. If you consider buying, take note that depending on your equipment. I suggest to buy a 15-pin M-M VGA and or a S-video cable for outputting ahead of time. Which are not included in the box. One more thing! The V2V Pro's S-Video input bay is to far in for any standard S-Video cable to fit in and reach. So i had to shave some of the plastic from my cable for it to reach. Which is the only con i can think of so far for this product. You may have that problem with the VGA input as well. Also at time it will seem as if the screen has darkened. That can be fixed simply by restarting the V2V Pro. Goodbye piece of crap TV. for question or comments, please reply or contact me. I hope you enjoyed my review on the V2V Pro.

I was concerned if this would have good picture I connected it to a 23" Dell Monitor and it works very well. Not only was I able to connect my PS2 to the monitor I also can connect my Direct TV satellite box to the monitor and use as a television.

This review is from: MyGica V2VPro Video to VGA Converter / Video Switcher (Personal Computers)
I was looking for a device that would convert the composite video signal in to vga. Because my old tube tv went
out. I needed a monitor for my gigantic game console collection. and i didnt want to use my plasma screen all of the time (for many reasons). Plus i had an extra LCD computer monitor sitting around. So i looked all over the net at product reviews for such device. After spending a few hours researching. I narrowed my result down to this, The V2V Pro!!, It was very high rated amongst many other generic video converters. So i purchased mine here about 4 weeks ago. I received it 3 weeks ago. This thing was ready to go right out of the box. The only thing i had to configure was the resolution and hue, color, brightness. other than that i was all set. After trying all of my game consoles on the v2v pro. I was satisfied with my purchase .the picture quality was quite good, also it made my game consoles apppear better on screen than they ever have before with the old tube tv. I would turn it off after every use. I only used it once a day for about a week, than once our twice about every other day after that. So i decided to quit turning it off and leave it on for its conveiniance. I fired up a game today, I noticed that the picture looked different. The colors were off, they looked faded and washed out. Also the brightness was so high that many details were missing from blending in to others. So i thought( well, it looks like i need to adjust the monitor again). So i changed the monitor settings around. After doing that there wasn't really any difference in the picture. So i adjusted the v2v pro settings. No matter what i did the picture would just look worse. if i wanted more contrast the colors would fade out. if i wanted +/- hue nothing would happen. It looks like i will have to go back to the drawing board for my setup. Possibly revert back to a power sucking tube TV. I am not saying this is a bad product. In fact It really does the job well. I just think it was my luck why the life of my V2VPRO ended prematurely. Thank you for reading this review, i hope it helped. |
