I bought this to test a room in my house where the occupant had complained of breathing problems and overall degradation of health.

The pump works as advertised. You stick the air catch securely in the top, press the button and let it do its thing. However, I felt like I was led to believe the lab testing was $35 per sample without a minimum requirement, which technically it is $35 per sample but you have to have a minimum of two samples. So no matter what every time you send samples to the lab it will be a minimum of $70, with each additional sample at $35.

I understand the significance of having an outdoor sample with every indoor sample because they can be related. But I only wanted to see the effect of mold remediation (was there a drop in count) and my outdoor sample was almost 0 the first time.

The test results do not offer any insight into the relation of the two samples, they only report the numbers and it is up to you to interpret them.

As a professional mold consultant (16 yrs - >2000 buildings) I was skeptical this would work. Professional grade mold air pumps cost about $600. However, I was pleasantly surprised it provides about the same results as the more expensive pump - when using Allergenco cassettes. It is simple to use. A minor quibble is that is factory calibrated to about 15 lit/min flow rate and cannot be changed. Using calibrators, I find these pumps give about 13-14 lit/min instead of 15 lit/min but this is OK as long as noted on the chain of custody form to the lab selected.

Some comments. The main concern from mold is AIRBORNE exposure. This requires collecting airborne mold tests. The key problem mold is Aspergillus-Penicillium. Many labs only analyze x400 magnification which often greatly undercounts these tiny mold spores. When sending in samples to labs, request labs that use x600 or x1000 (best) to do the analysis. Should include an outside test for comparison. Standard (undisturbed) tests will not detect settled mold spores. By using a small house fan for one minute swept near the floor and surfaces by the pump, a lightly disturbed test can be taken,. This will often show much higher levels. See papers at my web site moldymike@moldtestingsd.com

Pump should be placed about 4 ft above floor. This is a useful pump for persons doing their own tests or as a back-up pump for professionals.

Bought this kit at their website because I initially read that air sampling is the way "experts test for mold" but found out why not to use this method of testing. Air sampling greatly under samples for the smallest spores in the air, specifically stachybotrys types, the worst of the black molds. Air sampling misses most of the smallest spores, they pass right through the typical air sampling collector. After some research I found out that EPA scientists actually recommend testing dust samples, not air samples, because that is where the worst spores settle. From my reading of the available research, DNA testing of dust is the best way to determine if you have the worst molds present, but be aware most labs that offer such tests charge hundreds of dollars. The next best method is sending dust samples to the lab for microscopic examination ($25 or $30) or testing dust yourself using some of the available rapid tests that are available. Just beware that air sampling is very old technology that has some serious limitations. It's still used by many inspectors but it is very old technology that deserves to put out to pasture...

I bought this product after getting tired of smelling the same musty odor in my laundry room. There’s always been an area on the wall with a wet spot and mold growth. As a tenant, my landlord was not very helpful in remedying the obvious moisture issue. This device was just what I needed – I was able to take an outside control sample of air and then a sample inside of my laundry room and send both off to a lab to be tested. I tracked the progress of my samples on the website very easily and after about 5 days I received my lab analysis report. I showed this report to my landlord and he is now in the process of having a company remove the mold in our laundry room. Two thumbs up for the ease of tracking and affordability of this product

You don't know you have to send the item out for another $35 lab fee until you get the box. I will be returning this item. It also is supposed to be "reusable"; however, only includes enough "stuff" to do it once, then you have to buy another pack of "stuff" to try it again.

I found this product to be , in my opinion best on the market. My wife and I recently bought a house, and my allergies were acting up so I asked for the mold report the selling agent said came back clean per my agent. I found out all they used was a petri dish type test, and who knows if it was even done in my house or done properly, further more they never sent it into a lab they just did not see any mold growing in it so they said it was ok.I had a friend help me who went through something similar and knows a little about this. We inquired about doing our own testing so we looked into different tests available and hygienists. We wanted to use a hygienist as a last resort for documentation If the tests came back with what I dreaded because Hygienists are not cheap. We did a few tests one of which I am curious if we will ever get the lab results back or not, and the other was a swab that was instant. I liked this test over all because it gave the air test and a tape sample, so we covered both aspects of testing. The instructions were easy, and the test results I got back explained what it was that I had.
