Book Description

March 25, 2003
MySQL today offers a rich functionality that did not exist in previous versions. Many developers earlier felt that lack of transactional support was a serious shortcoming in the design of MySQL Server. With the recent releases, however, MySQL has included full transactional support for both BDB and InnoDB tables. Transactional processing comes with many advantages as well as performance considerations. In this book we will cover the configuration settings, the implementation, and the tables that support transactions in MySQL. It will also include tips on modifying the server's settings to tweak the performance limitations that are posed by transactions.

MySQL also is an integral component of a large number of OLTP applications, which requires it to meet performance criteria in a production environment. Replication support has been introduced in MySQL to enhance the performance and availability of databases in an OLTP environment. This handbook examines in detail a replicated setup, the configuration, and the various architectures that can be implemented with MySQL. It also explores the limitations in the MySQL server and their respective workarounds. The MySQL Transactions and Replication Handbook is a repository for all those looking at augmenting the performance of their server who at the same time want to maintain the integrity of data available on the server.

The MySQL Transaction and Replication handbook will serve to educate the reader on Transaction and Replication strategies that may be undertaken with MySQL, from the point of view of the application as well as administration. This book will cover Transaction and Replication from the configuration stage, explore and appraise the options available to us, and help us make suitable decisions as per our needs.
