5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Enjoyable Racing Game for the Wii
I know that all games like this one are understandably compared (usually unfavorably) to Mario Kart. So be it. This is not Mario Kart and as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't have to be. 2.0 out of 5 stars Another Japanese themed kids game
Nothing wrong with being a game for kids, but I was looking for something a little more adult and challenging. Tough to find on the Wii system.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Enjoyable Racing Game for the Wii, June 16, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MySims Racing (Video Game)
I know that all games like this one are understandably compared (usually unfavorably) to Mario Kart. So be it. This is not Mario Kart and as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't have to be. The racing physics are good, the tracks are interesting, varied, and well-designed, and the story mode is entertaining enough and suitable for everyone. You will race on tracks in an arid town, a forest, an icy mountain range, and a theme park with multiple tracks opening up in each setting as you progress. The tracks found in the latter three are particularly enjoyable and challenging (think rapids and wooden bridges, icy caves with watery pitfalls between the route options, and pinball machine/roller coaster amalgamations, to give you some idea.)

I must say that I was hooked after starting the story mode and spent a large part of a weekend finishing it, though I still plan to go back to perfect some of my "challenge" results to unlock some of the rarest performance upgrades. You can use the cars you create in story mode to race arcade style quick races and short 2-5 race cup competitions as well. With a little imagination, you can design some pretty cool cars based on any number of themes (skulls and morbidity, ninjas, flower power, goth, various animals, old fashioned retro rides, royalty, a combination of all of these and more, you name it). What I like best is that this game is neither too easy nor too hard and is set up well in that the competition and tracks gets tougher as you build up the ability to improve your cars. You have three cars to play with (S, M, and L) with multiple designs initially available or unlockable for each. You also have the opportunity to gradually upgrade each car's engine, frame, and handling characteristics. Once you unlock and "buy" each upgrade with the crystals you earn for successful races, it's available for all three cars. This process is well thought out and you will find that different set-ups are desirable depending on racing conditions. The agile little rocket works well for solo speed challenges while you'll want something a little heavier for the rough and tumble six or even eight way races where bumping and other shenanigans are the norm. I have found that my suped-up medium sized muscle car offers the best of both worlds and I rarely use either of my other cars. The concept of power-ups is borrowed from Mario Kart, but most of the actual examples here are unique and vary quite a bit in their effectiveness. The UFO ride and unlimited boost are my favorites as they really help you gain ground when you're trailing in a race. The other power-ups mostly serve to frustrate rival drivers and they are fun and valuable as well. Among other things, you will find yourself: having to race upside down; dealing with bunnies covering your windshield; avoiding beehives, lightning strikes, bubble traps and pumpkin slicks; dodging oak trees that pop up in your path, etc. I've yet to try the multiplayer option, so I can't comment there, though I'm sure it will be fun.

Overall, I am quite impressed with My Sims Racing and in less than a week I have already played it much more than I ever play the majority of my other Wii games. I have a hard time imagining anyone being truly disappointed in this one if they like racing games like Mario Kart. Luckily, one can always use the local video store to give any game a trial run and I wholeheartedly recommend doing at least this much with My Sims Racing. One last thing, this game offers no on-line capability; it seems that this is a question/concern for some so I felt I should clarify that point...

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly fun, June 16, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MySims Racing (Video Game)
MySims Racing surprised me with it's customization features and wide variety of environments. Each of the game's characters is very unique and likable. You also have an amazing number of options to choose from when you create your own character and car. You can upgrade your car with parts to improve it's handling, steering, acceleration and weight. You'll definitely need to do that for the later races.
The controls are very responsive with either the Wii or Gamecube controllers and you'll be power sliding in no time. Lots of power ups and variety within each track and racing to help the townsfolk (yes, there is an overall story line) is much more enjoyable than just click click clicking to the next race.
One thing to note is that if you have a Gamecube controller plugged in, you'll have to use that, and not the Wii controllers to get past the intro screens.

Both my six year old daughter and my husband love the game. We've tried the Mario Cart and find this game much more user friendly and much more exciting to play. My daughter is always excited to play this game especially because we use it as a reward on the weekend for good behavior during the week. Love the game and we highly recommend it.

Judging from the images on the box, I never thought I'd play a silly looking game like this, and it seems we can't stop playing it.
It's got joyful energy and it's visually sweet, made with a heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars WAY better then Mario Kart, July 29, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This game is way better then any racing game i've played. The best thing about this game is that there is a storymode where you compete against other racers in the game. I found this hard yet very fun. Im actually suprised that there are not more reviews on this game because it is so much fun! I played this game non stop all week and I was only about half way through the storymode. You can also make your own cars and race against family members. The tracks are awesome and never boring! If you love racing.... you will LOVE this game! This beats mario kart a thousand times!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game!, October 21, 2009

This is a great game! In my opinion it is just as fun as Mario Kart and in some ways better. This is one of mine and my kids (8yr) favorite game. The maps and cars are a lot of fun to play. No motorcycles like Mario Kart but getting to build and customize your car adds a whole different level to this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tons of fun and very kid-friendly!, January 10, 2010

I learned about this game in an online article called "25 great games you'll be happy buying for your kids for Christmas". I purchased this for my 9-year old son for Christmas and we are all having a lot of fun playing it. Great game which is not too hard for kids and not too easy for adults. Very similar to MarioKart in it's basic concept but at half the price of that game, this is a fabulous alternative! The power ups are super fun and different, my favourites are definitely UFO and the "bunny love" is fun for a laugh. Highly recommended. We play both single and multiplayer and it's all fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars MarioKart...but better, January 27, 2012

Imagine MarioKart. Now imagine MarioKart where you can customize your avatar and vehicle, and there are other things to do besides race the same characters over and over and over. That's MySims.

I've had MarioKart since first buying my Wii a few years ago. I've been stuck on the same six competitions for almost as long because I can't figure out how to unlock any more. BORED TO TEARS (note: I'm a 42-year-old woman working two jobs, I don't have huge blocks of time to devote to video games).

I bought the Sims to play with my Cyberbike Magnetic Edition and they work very well together. Last night I was playing and an hour flew by without me even noticing. Great workout, and the main reason I bought the bike -- to play games while pedaling and not just count down the minutes before I could get off.

Sims beats Mario in the customization possibilities as well as the variety of tracks and challenges -- some races, some beat the clock, some collect the items. They rotate randomly and often enough to keep me well interested. The races seem easy to win, but it's deceptive; it's easy to win a bronze medal. Silver and gold, appropriately, require a bit more effort, so this isn't just for little kids (though little kids would certainly enjoy it too).

The in-game characters you meet are a bit tiresome, as they babble at you in a non-language with no way to turn them off. I do love the emo kid in the forest who pities us racers: "All that work just to end up back where you started." He's right, but I don't mind so much if I'm working up a good sweat doing it.

Camera work and physics of gameplay are excellent. MarioKart will have to sit on the shelf for awhile.
