5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody brilliant, May 18, 2010
This review is from: MySpace Dark Horse Presents Volume 3 (Paperback)
"MySpace Dark Horse Presents Vol 3" regains the sparkle of the first volume after a dull second book. The focus in this volume is on horror stories and reflects the tone of the Crypt Keeper comics of the '50s.

Mike Mignola launches the book off with his story of three witches plotting to murder Queen Victoria while Edward Grey, the Witchfinder, is on their trail to stop them. Becky Cloonan continues the macabre mood with "I See the Devil in My Sleep" which documents the downfall of a young man's sanity ending with an epitaph by the Beast of Chicago. "Creepy: Meet the Creepys" is Dan Braun's tongue in cheek horror story about a strange family, while Josh Dysart's "The Stain" tells the story of an autobiographical (?) story of visiting an abandoned mental asylum looking for a room with the stain of a young woman who killed herself there years ago.

"Creepy: Om Nom Nom!" by Andrew Mayer has a crypt keeper-type narrator telling the story of a cannibalistic old woman. The horror tone takes a comedy angle with "Previously Possessed" by Sarah Oleksyk about a haunted party dress while "The Nightmare of the Wine Hobo" by Jamaica Dyer is a brilliantly illustrated silent comic about a hobo who falls for an enchanting bottle of wine.

Two brilliant online comics make an appearance: "Achewood: One Dollar Genius" by Chris Onstad takes teddy bears and makes them street. Three bored bears get stoned and decide to go on a road trip to nowhere. They stop at a Taco Bell and decide to buy one of everything and blog about it. "The K Chronicles" by Keith Knight is about his year which brought him a new child and a new profession - comics creator.

Fans of Joss Whedon will enjoy this book too as three of his series' are present: strips of Serenity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Doctor Horrible are all included.

Great return to form from the team at MySpace Dark Horse, great read, great fun.
