So bad even Conan can't save it!,

These showcases are always a mixed bag and some anthologies are better than others - unfortunately this volume isn't one of the best ones. There are some fair to middling strips like the Conan the Barbarian short written and drawn by Darick Robertson that is about Conan becoming part of the Mad King of Gaul's marauder army, or Duke Armstrong the World's Greatest Golfer who takes down the Luftwaffe with golf balls fired from Dover. There are some nice quirky strips like the one about the family who eat one of their children after being driven mad by a new form of hamburger or the Roald Dahl-esque story of a girl who starts eating feathers and turns into a bird. Overall though the mediocre strips are outweighed by the rather crappy ones that make up the bulk of this book. "MySpace Dark Horse Presents" is a decent series but Vol 5 isn't the best of the series - I'd recommend either Vols 1, 3, or 4 instead for better examples of well written/drawn comics. |
