Terrific Information, Clearly Dissected,
This review is from: The MySpace Marketing Manual (Paperback)
There is so much information out there on how one should sell on MySpace, but, having done much research on this topic, I can honestly say that most of it is garbage.
In this book, however, Nick Jag clearly breaks this convoluted concept down for the reader, allowing one to easily grasp the concepts behind selling on MySpace. His writing style is clear, concise, and it's easy to see that he knows what he's takling about. He also delves into topics often overlooked, such as preliminary research into one's target market - just as important as the "actual" MySpace efforts! Beyond that, he covers everything from SEO to profile construction to proper, *ethical* ways of increasing your traffic...it's hard to mention it all in such a short review. All in all, I feel 100% more confident in my MySpace marketing efforts after having read this book! Conclusion: this is a *must-buy* for anyone serious about marketing on MySpace.

Definitely worth the read,
This review is from: The MySpace Marketing Manual (Paperback)
Although somewhat short - finished in a couple hours, I found the book delivering on all of its promises. I've been using myspace for a while now to market some software and sales conferences. The book touched on event stuff and good details about deleted profiles and adders which gave me some great ways to improve what I've been doing and, not to mention, some more confidence. There's really no other book that's so current and has so much detailed marketing information in it - for example: what time to send bulletins out to have the most impact. For the price plus the forum access, I would recommend it to any one that is serious about business on myspace.

This book is good if your new to MySpace. Although I'm not new, I did learn a couple of things that I can use in my marketing efforts. I like how the book focuses on building relationships, not spam. It's also a good easy read... I read it in one day.

Nick Jag definitely knows MySpace well and he knows marketing too. However, the title "MySpace Marketing" simply falls short in a number of respects.
Granted that there are a number of useful tips on building up your profile and promoting it (promoting to MySpace employees seemed like an interesting concept), I couldn't help but feeling I was reading a title that didn't deserve to be a book but rather a blog packed with tactics. The main issue I had with the book was the number of times the author seems to refer in a distant way about services offered by third parties that are in outright violation of the MySpace Terms of Use. But then, a paragraph later he seems to embrace some of these services, by suggesting the ones that have been around longer, having been able to trick MySpace monitoring. Seeing this same kind of approach a few times really weakens the book's credibility. Last, the presentation of the book is not done in a way that is user-friendly, severely lacking illustrations. Overall, I recommend you look elsewhere: I will be doing so... If I read other better MySpace Marketing resources, I will make sure to share my review about them here.

I promote some local bands and this book gave some good information for doin gthat. I was looking for more information on getting them featured and using bots although I'm using Friend Adder already. It helped me realise some things I was missing and what I was actually capable of since I already knew myspace decent. good value for me.

I am an author and a sales professional. I have been on MySpace for quite a while now and I gleaned tons of new information from Nick's book. I wasn't even a full chapter into it before I was applying some of his suggestions to my new eBook sales campaign. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who's considering MySpace members as a target market.

My daughter is a pop singer. Like many other artists she has found the internet to be an excellent way to find new fans and promote her music. On Myspace she received so many song plays, views and fans in such a short amount of time she was featured in an excellent book on Myspace by John Pospisil.
Though she has several hundred thousand plays on her songs on Myspace, its always great to have several hundred thousand more...so we picked up several books on Myspace promotion. Though each book has its own slant, Nick Jag's is one of our favorites. Jag's book is a slim volume, only 115 pages and he cuts to the chase. Though he gives some tips and tools to "pimp" your profile, his main focus is the bottomline of how you can effectively use your Myspace to achieve your goals. He gets to the core of how to effectively market your brand without the fluff of many of the other Myspace books on the market. Nick teaches you how to target your audience, attact their attention and keep them coming back for more! Some of the covered issues include, how to keep users passionate about your brand, make visitors want to be your friend instantly, methods for event marketing, finding your target audience, Myspace resources and more. He also shares hard to find nitty gritty details like the best time to post a bulletin, the best email address to use when signing up, backlinks etc. Aside from the excellent promotion ideas, one of the things we like about the book is that Nick stresses quality friends who want to learn more about your music or business over quantity. He blasts friend trains stating they are mostly spam profiles and can hurt your profile. Though Nick makes it clear that bots are a violation of Myspace terms of service he does share a friend adder address in the book. This is disappointing as we are strongly against using "bots" of any kind. Unfortunately, many artists and businesses use these "bots' to gain friends. Sadly, some artists even pay for services to falsely inflate their song plays and views. The back of the book has an excellent resource section which includes sources for layouts and codes, profile components, Myspace blogs and forums etc. It would be nice if Nick had included an index at the back for easy searching. Nick also has a website for social site discussion, resources, tips and techniques etc. So for the low price of the book you get Nick's expertise also! An outstanding value. Overall the book packs a lot of information, filled with little known tips and tidbits to give your Myspace promotion that extra punch that can help take your business, band etc to the next level! ~ Lee Mellott

Just got it and read through. Pretty useful information, especially on the featured part and finding people on myspace. Short but to the point, I recommend for other bands

Best Resource Out There So Far,
By Jared M. "Jared" (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The MySpace Marketing Manual (Paperback)
Using the book for music video promo I found it pretty useful with most info I couldn't easily find anywhere else. Specifically, the charts and videos stuff was pretty helpful and detailed. It didn't have a lot of very basic info, but I didn't need it anyway.

I orderd this book because I was under the impression that it would reveal tricks, tips and hacks that would improve my ability to know how to manipulate Myspace so that it generated traffic and response to my online presence.
I found little in the book that cant be found online, and its lack of visuals and/or references to actual antecdotes left me to wonder if anyone really was using the information in the book in some sort of successful way. Basically, if you want to maximize your social networking influence, use the internet to find what you need, this book is just a singular attempt to help the novice and does little for those who plan on maximizing their myspace, facebook, et al game. A lame attempt to help others master a potentially profitable niche in a new wave of marketing tools. |
