I've always been a fan of Mya. I think she's one of the most talented female artist in entertainment today that is overlooked. Not only can she sing but girlfriend can dance. I'm glad that she's now getting into the acting scene. This us surely her best album to date. FEAR OF FLYING and MOODRING are solid albums but cannot compare to her debut. If Mya gets the credit she deserves as an entertainer, she will be unstoppable.

Excellent Self-Title Debut,
By "zooropaflygirl" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mya (Audio CD)
This an outstanding debut by pop R&B superstar Mya. This collection of melodic tracks introduces a multi-talent who can sing, write and produce songs, and even designs her own clothes! This album is a balance of up-tempo tracks and ballads. It includes three singles: "It's All About Me", "Movin' On" and "My First Night With You", a beautiful ballad which was an excellent choice for a single, but a poor choice was made with the other two. I personally think the original version of "Movin' On" is better than the remix, which is the one that was released. Silkk The Shocker screwed that one up with annoying ad-libs, which totally ruined the whole song. And "It's All About Me" was an OK song, but the rest of the album is better. It was a mediocre song and a gimmick duet with Sisqo, which is probably why it was a single. The chorus sounded way to similar to Destiny's Child's "No, No, No". I think any other single what of been better. My favorite songs on this one are the opening track "What Cha Say" and the sassy duet with Missy "Bye Bye." She has a mellower vocal style and a different look back then than she does now. I think the black perm looks so unnatural, she looks better with straight or wavy lighter brown hair.

::Shaking Head:: Mya, Mya, Mya, Mya...,
By Devon (Aquamarina Esplanades, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mya (Audio CD)
Average, run-of-the-mill, and rushed: these are the words that describe Mya's self-titled debut. There are a few stand-out tracks, but mostly filler. The album loses it's luster, vibrancy, and life after a couple of spins. It's one of those CDs that (after a month) will sit on your bookcase and collect dust. Recommended if desperate.
