1.0 out of 5 stars take a pass on this, March 21, 2009
This review is from: Myerchin L300P Navigator Lightknife Pro 3/4 Serrated Folder Sailing Rigging Knife
I went through 2 of these in less than 3 years. The mainspring broke on both. The frustrating thing is they did not break while in use. I'd reach into the waterproof box it was kept in (heaviest thing in the box was a diesel tank key -- displacement hull does not pound) and they were shot.

The shackle key is way too small for any serious shackle.

Get an Ibberson from England. Including post, its less money and infinitely better built. I now have a knife I can count on. Its bullet-proof and has a shackle key that's useful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love it, but it broke:(, November 26, 2009
This review is from: Myerchin L300P Navigator Lightknife Pro 3/4 Serrated Folder Sailing Rigging Knife
Nice knife. Not to bad to keep in the pocket. The blade opens up slickley by clipping the knife on pocket and grasping blade to retrieve out of pocket. The blade opens right up. Locking marlin spike was great. I miss this knife. I would of given it 5 stars if the spring that held spike didnt brake after a years use. I am an arborist so it did receive daily use. Also the red light would of been much more useful if it was white.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective, November 6, 2011
This review is from: Myerchin L300P Navigator Lightknife Pro 3/4 Serrated Folder Sailing Rigging Knife
I bought one of these knives from West Marine before the June 2008 Newport to Bermuda Race. By the end of the summer it failed while using it and the spring mechanism flew across the deck. I barely used it. I sent it back and they sent me another one and charged me shipping. This one failed too in exactly the same manner - locking mechanism/"spring" broke - barely used it. I sent it back with a letter explaining this was the second knife with the same defect and that I wanted a different knife. No response. I called them up a few months later and found they had moved offices and they said they would look into it...they found my letter and sent me the same knife again. Failure again this summer but this time it failed without use....I left it for a week in a line bag in the cockpit and found that it was broken - again in the same place. This is clearly a defective design or manufacturing defect and they appear to keep sending out the same defective product. I told West Marine and they told me they no longer carry the knives...they sent me a check to compensate me for my horrendous consumer experience. Kudos to West Marine...thumbs down to Myerchin. These knives cannot be counted on period.
