Gets a consistently accurate measurement.

I use the tape to measure myself, which is pretty straightforward, but the caliper I'm not sure I'm using it right -- although there are instructions.

Not only did it break the first time I tried it.

I'm on a fat weight loss and muscle gain plan with diet and exercise. I needed an inexpensive way to help assess my body fat. The MyoTape is a nice solution. The ratcheting action helps keep the tape cinched the same every time. The only suggestion I would have for improvement is a better mechanism to keep the end of the tape rod held into the hole when trying to measure. It fairly often wants to fall out with the slightest movement if you aren't holding it with your fingers. A simple change in the plastic would alleviate this, but to the user considering purchasing, this is 'must have' for cheap body measurements.

The Fat Caliper is not something I would give great expectations to. It is really just a piece of plastic but it's effectiveness is only as good as the consistency of how the user performs the measurement. I found it to take far too much work to get the simple measurements I needed and resorted to mainly using the MyoTape with an online fat % calculator based on several different body measurements.

For the price, this item cannot be beat. It does the same job and gives accurate results that rival products that cost ten times the price. If you need to measure your body fat conten, then this is the product for you.

The fat caliper is plastic- and not heavy duty plastic either. I guess this could be a good starting point- especially for people taking their own measurements- but for taking other people's I would recommend going with something a little bit higher quality. In terms of the tape measure- it's nice that it has the retracting button but it expects you to put the end of the measure in to the notch it has at the end so the tape count doesn't start for 2 inches. I think it would be easier to just go with a normal tape measure so you don't have to attach it each time.

I'll be honest -- I got this because it was pretty cheap.

So I did not have lofty aspirations. I'm always amused by people that spend a couple of bucks and expect a product to change the world.

It looks like cheap plastic in the photo, and that's exactly what it is.

But cheap plastic aside, it's pretty functional. I use the tape to measure myself, which is pretty straightforward, but the caliper I'm not sure I'm using it right -- although there are instructions.

If you want a serious, heavy-duty product, then you will have to invest in a serious price and possibly the personal trainer to guide you to use it efficiently as well.

For my purposes, which is sporadic use whenever I remember, it's ideal.

P.S.... The tape is also useful and portable for other purposes. I used it when I was shopping for my HDTV to make sure it would fit the dimensions of the shelf space in my room. Always good to have a multi-functional device :)

I threw the caliper in the garbage before I hurt someone with it. It was almost impossible to do it alone without help, it was awkward, it was frustrating and could not and would not give me accurate readings and the readings would vary by person by person depending on who was helping me. The tape, however, is great and I use it alot with nothing but positive things to say about it.

The MyoTape is awesome. It makes it so easy to get accurate measurements on yourself. The caliper is totally confusing and I can't seem to get an accurate reading. As many times as I try it, I get a different result. Skip the caliper and just buy the MyoTape.

The fat caliper is hard to read by yourself. You must be able to discern which number on a small scale is correct while still holding everything steady since there is no way to lock in the reading. The tape measure is also not very accurate. It locks so that you can see the measurement after taking it off, but it will still slide up to half an inch since it only seems to lock every so often. I would not buy this again. It's not even worth the $7 or so that I paid for it.

The caliper is flimsy and difficult to use and I imagine it would break if you use it very often.

One important thing is that, due to its design, it cannot measure your body fat once you get below about 12%-13%. So if you've got more body fat than that you'll be OK I guess, but if you're around that level then you'll have to find another method.

The tape works fine though.
