Works great...but for only a month,
By
This review is from: Mypressi Twist Portable Espresso Maker (Kitchen)
I originally got the Mypressi Twist in March. I was blown away by the great shots it was able to produce after only a few tries of getting used to it. Who would have thought such great espresso could have come from this little thing? I really loved the thing, and used it each morning for one double shot. However, as time went on the cartridge life continually declined. At first, I could get the 4 double shots from one cartridge, then 3, then just one. I could hear the gas leaking out slowly. Thought it might be bad cartridges, but it was not. I contacted MyPressi and they said there were problems with some of the early units having a 'slow leak.' On their website, they say they'll send you a "slow-leak patch kit," but in reality there is no kit, they just replace the unit. So I'm thinking, "Wow, what great customer service!" As they said they would, the replacement unit was sent. It was not a new unit, and it was obviously used. The end cap had extra metal soldered into the end, and I could instantly see some gas leaking out from around the bowl (cold on metal). And it made sounds not like my other. I knew it would not last. Again, the Mypressi worked for about a month of daily 1 double shot use. Then, just like the last unit, it is down to 1 double (or single, ONE TIME use only) per cartridge. I again contacted mypressi and they will not respond. I tried posting this info on the help and message board on their site, but all posts relating to the Mypressi not working well are IMMEDIATELY erased (vs 'how do I do this' posts). The Mypressi has a year warranty, but the thing only lasts two months. I am very disappointed as I did love it at first. I tend to think this company may go under...

The Mypressi was definitely worth the wait!
The Mypressi is very well made and feels solid. It's evident that care was taken during design- all pieces fit together nicely and seams line up providing a nice presentation. The instructions provided are clear and simple. From the time it took to unpack the Mypressi to my first double espresso being pulled was about 2 minutes including the 25 second pull time. Disassembly was equally quick and easy. The clean up was minimal and the Mypressi could easily be used during a hectic morning or on the go. Three baskets were provided, I learned that the "pressurized basket" works best with espresso ground using the machine at the grocery store. The grounds didn't quite get fine enough to use the "standard basket." Luckily the instructions have a well laid out FAQ for situations like this. The water bowl has a very good marking inside of it so there's no guess work involved when adding water for a single or double shot. The espresso produced was very impressive. To put it simply, my local coffee shop just lost a customer. Every aspect of this product makes sense and its really clear that the inventors thought it through. Overall, the Mypressi far exceeded my expectations. It's well made, simple to use, and makes really good espresso!

Favorite Christmas Gift this year! :),

I received my Twist as a Christmas gift.
While the instructions indicate that I can expect four Double-shots or eight Single-shots per N2O charger, I've used two of them so far and got 5 (five) Doubles out of both using the standard double-shot basket, 16g of beans ground at "10" on a Rancillo Rocky grinder (for reference, I grind for drip at "21" and vac pot at "30"). After the first two attempts (too fine a grind and/or too firm a tamp leading to 60+ and 45 second pulls respectively), I seem to be getting between 20 & 25 second pulls ending with *tons* of crema & a very smooth taste (using Sweet Maria's "Espresso Monkey Blend", roasted the morning of 12/26). No bitterness at all. Very easy clean up, doesn't tie up a bunch of counter space. I'm one happy espresso drinker. :)
