I originally got the Mypressi Twist in March. I was blown away by the great shots it was able to produce after only a few tries of getting used to it. Who would have thought such great espresso could have come from this little thing? I really loved the thing, and used it each morning for one double shot. However, as time went on the cartridge life continually declined. At first, I could get the 4 double shots from one cartridge, then 3, then just one. I could hear the gas leaking out slowly. Thought it might be bad cartridges, but it was not. I contacted MyPressi and they said there were problems with some of the early units having a 'slow leak.' On their website, they say they'll send you a "slow-leak patch kit," but in reality there is no kit, they just replace the unit. So I'm thinking, "Wow, what great customer service!" As they said they would, the replacement unit was sent. It was not a new unit, and it was obviously used. The end cap had extra metal soldered into the end, and I could instantly see some gas leaking out from around the bowl (cold on metal). And it made sounds not like my other. I knew it would not last. Again, the Mypressi worked for about a month of daily 1 double shot use. Then, just like the last unit, it is down to 1 double (or single, ONE TIME use only) per cartridge. I again contacted mypressi and they will not respond. I tried posting this info on the help and message board on their site, but all posts relating to the Mypressi not working well are IMMEDIATELY erased (vs 'how do I do this' posts). The Mypressi has a year warranty, but the thing only lasts two months. I am very disappointed as I did love it at first. I tend to think this company may go under...

The Mypressi was definitely worth the wait!

The Mypressi is very well made and feels solid. It's evident that care was taken during design- all pieces fit together nicely and seams line up providing a nice presentation. The instructions provided are clear and simple.

From the time it took to unpack the Mypressi to my first double espresso being pulled was about 2 minutes including the 25 second pull time. Disassembly was equally quick and easy. The clean up was minimal and the Mypressi could easily be used during a hectic morning or on the go.

Three baskets were provided, I learned that the "pressurized basket" works best with espresso ground using the machine at the grocery store. The grounds didn't quite get fine enough to use the "standard basket." Luckily the instructions have a well laid out FAQ for situations like this. The water bowl has a very good marking inside of it so there's no guess work involved when adding water for a single or double shot.

The espresso produced was very impressive. To put it simply, my local coffee shop just lost a customer.

Every aspect of this product makes sense and its really clear that the inventors thought it through. Overall, the Mypressi far exceeded my expectations. It's well made, simple to use, and makes really good espresso!

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite Christmas Gift this year! :), December 30, 2009

I received my Twist as a Christmas gift.

While the instructions indicate that I can expect four Double-shots or eight Single-shots per N2O charger, I've used two of them so far and got 5 (five) Doubles out of both using the standard double-shot basket, 16g of beans ground at "10" on a Rancillo Rocky grinder (for reference, I grind for drip at "21" and vac pot at "30").

After the first two attempts (too fine a grind and/or too firm a tamp leading to 60+ and 45 second pulls respectively), I seem to be getting between 20 & 25 second pulls ending with *tons* of crema & a very smooth taste (using Sweet Maria's "Espresso Monkey Blend", roasted the morning of 12/26). No bitterness at all.

Very easy clean up, doesn't tie up a bunch of counter space. I'm one happy espresso drinker. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing True Espresso Maker, April 18, 2010

If you know Espresso you won't be disappointed.
After a short introduction period I can now pull shots that are better
then the shots I pull with my $2K home unit.

Yes it takes some work, yes you will need a good burr grinder, yes you will need
to dial it in,yes you need fresh good coffee, yes you need to preheat the water bowl and the cup.... but
if you are willing to do all that it will give you amazing results every time.

Unit is built very well.
I can see it being used day after day for years. (simplicity rules!)
Easy to clean up.
For those who only get 1 or 2 cups per charge contact the manufacturer
they will send you an upgraded end cap that will take care of the problem.
The unit will do 4 double shots on one charge within 48 hours.... at minimum.

Yes, the O rings fall out sometimes when I wash the unit but I just worked it into my
routine to place my thumb on the O ring while washing it.

Top quality espresso from a $150 device?
As unbelievable as it may sound the answer is a definitive YES!

5.0 out of 5 stars matches my PID'd Silvia, April 11, 2010

This machine rocks! For crema and intensity of flavors, it is in the same league as my Rancilio Silvia (with PID temp control added). Flavors are a bit smoothed out with the Twist, which makes for a more forgiving espresso if your beans are less than stellar (off notes are muted). Make sure your grinder can grind fine enough and don't forget the preheat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed by mypressi, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Mypressi Twist Portable Espresso Maker (Kitchen)
I have only made 5 shots so far, but they all come out very nice. I use Lavazza "il perfetto espresso" from [...], which (in quantity) costs about 1/3 of what I used to pay for the illy at WholeFoods.

In reply to Francesco Fato: I think there is no point in preheating the lower hemisphere because the plastic has a low heat capacity and never holds the brew. But you may as well go naked and remove it as suggested by "Reflex". Today I used the pressurized cup without the lower hemisphere and had it squirt directly into the pre-heated milk. That created a great froth for my latte.

I wonder when people will stop using their big and noisy machines in favor of the mypressi.

The cartridges cost between $0.50 and $1 a piece depending on quantity etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great espresso - couple of improvement suggestions, January 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mypressi Twist Portable Espresso Maker (Kitchen)
Once I realized that the small o-ring fell out (wasted 3 cartridges trying to figure out what was wrong) I was able to pull some very nice shots from this machine. It is a very clever design and from what I can tell the cheapest, easiest way to make true espresso.
I soak the unit in boiling water while I am grinding and dosing and I have no temperature issues (that I can taste in the shot anyway). It would be nice to make the o-ring a little more secure and it would also be nice to have some kind of way to tell how much pressure is left in a cartridge. Those are the only drawbacks I have experienced with the mypressi.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, fast, AND cheap???, August 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mypressi Twist Portable Espresso Maker (Kitchen)
Supposedly one can have it good, have it fast, and have it cheap - pick any two. However, I think we may have an exception on our hands with the Mypressi Twist. I've had my eye on this since it was initially announced a while back, and finally splurged and got it as a birthday present for myself :)

A couple minor quibbles aside, the build quality on this thing is phenomenal. Heavy chrome plated copper makes up the majority of the construction, just like on a nice espresso machine. All of the pieces exude quality and fit together very well, except for the cap that hold the nitrous cartridge in (the metal parts don't quite line up when screwed all the way on) and the lower hemisphere (it's made entirely of plastic, except for the spout, and fits a bit loosely). I don't ever use the lower part anyway, so it's not that big a deal. Mypressi includes a spare set of o rings, a few baskets to choose from, and 4 nitrous cartridges to get your espresso on right away.

I use it primarily in class, with a hot pot to boil the water, and Lavazza Gran Crema espresso pods (as per suggestions in other reviews). I can make a very decent shot of espresso in about 3 minutes, start to finish. It seriously makes some of the best short americanos I've ever had (equal parts hot water and espresso).

One thing I noted, it definitely benefits from using water as hot as you can get it. Just today I used my microwave to heat the water past the boiling point, and I got a little better results than I usually get with the hot pot. This dorm rat is now happy, caffeinated, and not paying the coffee shop for mediocre coffee :)

Performs as advertised. Water temperature and grind sensitive. Descent crema. For European purchasers beware of the recharge cartriges. Not all brands work due to length differences and cap ends. I found the ISI brand name (made in Austria) works well. A bit of cotton wool at the end of the screw part of the handle compensates well for the few milimeters difference. If not the gaz will eventually leak out and after a couple of hours there will be no pressure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Crema-licious coffee! Wow!, December 16, 2009
By
follow the evidence (Los Altos, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mypressi Twist Portable Espresso Maker (Kitchen)
I loved the design and was intrigued by the rave reviews so I decided to give the TWIST a shot - no pun intended. It's elegant and even better than it looks on the web. The box it comes in is very well done and inviting - like opening a package from Apple. I rushed to pull my first shot and didn't bother to read the instructions. Coffee poured out really fast, was weak and slightly ran over the sides. That's when I decided to carefully read the illustrated instructions. The coffee I had used was too coarse for the basket. I changed to the pressurized basket, pre-heated the water bowl, added very hot water, pulled the trigger and ... voila! Simply THE best shot of espresso I have ever tasted. The crema is remarkable, you can smell and taste the oils in the bean and it brings out flavors I had only read about until now. I highly recommend it! Make sure you read the simple and well-written instructions. The buzz is fully justified - this is an incredible machine! Enjoy!
