This review is from: The Myrtle Tree (Paperback)
This novel describes how the fictional village of Wahdeh in the Lebanese mountains becomes changed during the Lebanese civil war. The narrator, Adam, is one of few educated people to leave the village and return. He has a strong attachment to the land and the people. The village was secluded from the war until one of the village's least favorite sons brought in the militia. The war tears apart families and changes the village for good. A poignant look at how war affects people and communities. This was a beautifully sad novel.
