Brilliant acting, intriguing puzzles, and great graphics.,

First of all, I was actually able to solve the puzzles on my own. With Myst and Riven, I had a bunch of trouble understanding the puzzles, and when I finally found the solutions on the internet, I realized that I would never have figured those puzzles out by myself! Exile is so much better. The puzzles seem so obvious once you figure them out, but figuring them out is quite a challenge in some places.I also really enjoyed the way each age ended. I don't want to ruin any suprises, but the endings of each age are very exciting to watch! 3D rendering really adds to the effect. Now, instead of a whole bunch of pictures, you get 3D shots everywhere you go. Amazing how technology can improve so drastically over time! Finally, check out the acting. Brad Dourif, who plays the villian, has some amazing monologues -- especially towards the end of the game. Dourif really enhances the already lively storyline with his acting. What else can I say? This game rocks! As long as you have a fast computer, a good amount of patience, and you enjoyed the first two games, you should buy this one. P.S. A word of caution: Do not begin playing this game without completing Myst and Riven first. This game assumes that you already know one of the most important secrets in the earlier storylines...

A good buy for MYST fans.,

Even though this game has been out on the computer for a while, it is still a good buy for any fan of the series. The actual gameplay remains the same: it is a point-and-click adventure that is nothing but solving puzzles. There is no change to the gameplay at all, accept for the ability to spin the camera 3D. The game is phenomenal, and very engrossing. Graphics, a staple of the MYST series, are great, but they are better in the XBOX version. If you never liked MYST, MYST III: EXILE won't change your mind, but it is another great journey any fan should be willing to take.

5 plus 1 more star!,

There should be more games like this. Games that immerse you into the environment. Seeing these worlds made me want to be there. Beautiful. Who are these designers?! And the ability to interact with the environments really make it even more realistic. If the technology to put you in a virtual reality game ever comes out, a game like this would definitely be a big winner. Imagine to be able to see these awesome worlds and interact in them?! The puzzles aren't as complex as the ones in Riven, but, they are nevertheless, intrigueing. I just don't like the fact that some puzzles require you to write things down. If I was in that world, paper nor pencil may be available to me. So, I would have to rely on intuition and common sense. So, why not tailor the puzzles to fit that. I highly recommend this game and hope that a 4th comes out for the PS2!

Not quite as good as Riven... but almost.,

I love this game. The villain is insane, but you can identify with him, even feel sorry for him. He has a reason to be insane. It leaves the game open for a sequel, and the endings are interesting. It has the same interesting complex plot, but the reasons for the puzzles aren't quite as good as in Riven. Many times the excuse is simply security, lessons for Atrus's sons, or naturally occuring in nature. Those are okay, but they could have added a little more. The graphics are noticeably clearer than Riven, yet sometimes, unlike Riven, some things look like they're drawn out of colored pencils. The acting is good, though Catherine could be improved, and the ages are beautiful, with everything having a part and contributing to the overall age, which often is like a big machine with parts mutually depending on one another. Nice sound.Interesting presentation, with the menu like a book. The journals are realistically written and I love the cute little squees. The solutions to puzzles are so well hidden, like in Riven, but are startlingly obvious when discovered. You think, "how could you have missed that?" This game and Riven are my two overall favorites.

With the price being what it is for this game these days, I would say it is worth it. It is pretty scenic and ahead of its time. Great if you like to solve puzzles.
I would say the best part about this game is the soundtrack, which is absolutely amazing.

Myst, Riven and now Myst III!,

Just wanted to mention that the three games listed in the title of this review are by far the BEST three games out there for someone interested in puzzle solving and graphics. My PC is an old one at home so I am currently limited to PS2 as far as games go and have no idea if there will be another game released on PS2 to follow the three listed.
Do not be ashamed about going on-line to find some "helpful-hints" during the Exile adventure (there has to be a better word than that for this but that will do for now). I wish there were more games like this one out there but I just cannot find any. The Exile game also has options to view DVD style the waythe ideas and graphics were developed. 5 stars, nah, let's go with a 100 star rating. If you want to be entertained and dumbfounded for many, many hours I guarantee you WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!

Not a Classic, but still fun.,

The first game of the series with a number in the title. Not many people like this, but hey, they did it in Star Wars. The graphics are on par with Riven, in some places they look about the same as Myst: Original. The storyline isn't so great, but it is beliable enough. The acting is good, exectpt for the new Catherine, she's just funny. Many people complain about the contrivance of the puzzles, however they are still designed well execpt for the circut puzzle and balance puzzle. In all, not bad for a game destined to fill up the space between Riven and Myst IV.

Loved the puzzles, some were quite challenging. Overall a great game. Not as visually amazing as Myst or Riven and didn't enjoy the ending.

I absolutely adore the Myst series, and Exile is an awesome addition to the series of Myst. While it's a little more action oriented (you can actually be killed in this one), it is still very much a point and click like the original Myst and Riven was. I really recommend it!

The time it takes to move forward a step is a bit frustrating but the graphics are stunning, the scenery beautiful and the puzzles...puzzling. A very fun and involving game.
