A fitting end
A fitting end to the long-lived Myst series, this game brings the player to the present day, decades after the last instalment, in a quest to discover the dark past of the D'ni, the Bahro, and Atrus' daughter Yeesha. Finally in realtime free-romaing 3D, but with an "old style" point and click interface available for the nostalgics, Myst V allows for a greater immersion...

WARNING: Unpatched video issues make this game impossible!
I first got this game and played it on my older computer with a supported Video Card. I must have walked around for a week trying to figure out this game, but couldn't do it. I couldn't make any progress in the game, and being a big fan of the series I know something wasn't right. I threw the game in my drawer, and was looking forward to playing it when I got a faster...

This review is from: Myst V: End of Ages (Video Game)
A fitting end to the long-lived Myst series, this game brings the player to the present day, decades after the last instalment, in a quest to discover the dark past of the D'ni, the Bahro, and Atrus' daughter Yeesha. Finally in realtime free-romaing 3D, but with an "old style" point and click interface available for the nostalgics, Myst V allows for a greater immersion and interaction with the environment. The tablet that allows you to talk to the Bahro is a nice new gimmick and an important part in the puzzle-solving, even though the image recognition software it works upon is sometimes glitchy and, in one particular occasion, might allow you to skip a portion of an Age unintentionally. Those who have not played Uru might be confused at what the Bahro story is all about, but there are more than enough hints inside the game itself and, as always with the Myst games, part of the fun is figuring out the things that are not readily explained.

Ah, this is one of my favorite games. It has perhaps the best storyline of any series. You will not find better graphics in a mystery game, it is a mystery gamers heaven. Filled with only the absolute best puzzles, stunning graphics, and a good storyline.
I will warn you, this is not your average puzzle game. It has brought hard to a whole new extreme, an example of that is the fact that you have to zoom in a telescope into a random light-bulb in order to get the markings you need.

I first got this game and played it on my older computer with a supported Video Card. I must have walked around for a week trying to figure out this game, but couldn't do it. I couldn't make any progress in the game, and being a big fan of the series I know something wasn't right. I threw the game in my drawer, and was looking forward to playing it when I got a faster computer as I was having other performance issues.
Now that I have a better computer, I now literally 'see' things VERY VERY crucial to solving the game that I know I didn't see the first time I played. Obviously there are some unpatched bugs in this game. I looked for an update that probably would have fixed the issue I was having, but there are no patches available for this game.
This is not the first time this has happened, In Myst IV I ran across a similar issue with a certain puzzle where I couldn't see the puzzle in the game to complete it properly. A patch fixed this issue.
