5.0 out of 5 stars Let Mystere Sweep You Off Your Feet..., August 31, 2002
By
This review is from: Mystere (Audio CD)
The first time I listened to Cirques du Soleil's MYSTERE it literally swept me off my feet. I was completely blown away by the opening note and was therefore swept into a place beyond all human reason until the last note settled and left me sitting in absolute awe by the awakened beauty that had just flourished like in a distant daydream. I say all of this because the beauty that emanates from this album is profoundly surreal and yet all too thrilling to be true. From the haunting cello in "Rumeurs" to the flute pipes in "Kunya Sobe" to the electric guitar playing in "Birimbau", the sheer vibe of every single note of every single song will leave you gasping for more and more and more! That's why I can't wait to get my hands on MYSTERE: Live In Las Vegas. Obviously Cirques du Soleil are an act to not just listen to on a CD but to actually see in person. I want to see Cirques du Soleil almost as badly as I want to see my favorite singer Sarah Brightman, which is saying a lot given the fact that I've only been a fan of their music for little over a month. And though I find it hard to pick a favorite song, I deliberated for a very long time and came to realize that the purity of "Kalimando" was my favorite song with what sounds like a chorus of children and adults singing in unison a calming yet emotional melody. This album also has its dark side, however, with some somber tunes like "Ulysse" where soprano vocal singer Nathalie Gauvin mourns a disturbing refrain with some eerie percussion as backup. The song soon connects with the light though and breaks through to ecstatic yet joyous guitar playing.

This is highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Te live version is better, but this is still an excellent CD, August 4, 2000
This review is from: Mystere (Audio CD)
The music initially seems new age, and weird, but after several listenings, you appreciate the sophistication and variety.

Taken by itself, the CD *is* very good, and provides some great background mood music.

The studio feel detracts from the overwhelming punch the live presentation has. For example, this CD lacks the opening drum act. If you've seen the show at Treasure Island, you'll remember the intensity of the pounding from all directions. Similarly, the violins in Kunya Sobe are a little *too* centered (in the live, they're very widely spaced from the center).

The original CD didn't have "Taiko," which is the opening drum piece. The live performance is definitely worth seeing, especially for the intense and rhythmic pounding coming from every direction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD - but the tracks listed by amazon.com are wrong, February 15, 2001

I have loved listening to this CD for years since I first saw Mystere in Las Vegas. Be warned that the track listing shown is incorrect. The trax listed are actually or the "Mystere Live" CD (another fine CD). Amazon has no feedback mechanism for this type of typographical error.

The correct tracks for this CD are:

1. Egypte 2. Rumeurs 3. Birimbau 4. Kunya Sobe 5. En Ville 6. Ulysse 7. Rondo 8. Caravena 9. Kalimando

4.0 out of 5 stars Too studio-ized, but still excellent, March 28, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mystere (Audio CD)
I first bought the live performance CD of Mystere @ Treasure Island. Loved it, didn't take it out of the car CD player for MONTHS! Finally decided to invest in the studio version, thinking it would be that much better. Wrong. The Live version crackles with the emotions of the musicians, the studio version is glossy but flat-lined. The songs are so different on the live version. Mystere Live and Dralion are tied for first in my book, La Nouba is just too urban for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderous!, April 23, 2002
This review is from: Mystere (Audio CD)
This music soundtrack is just awesome! Wow. It is so good! I have never actually seen the show, but I got this soundtrack and it is jsut wonderful. It sure makes me want to see the show itself in Las Vegas. The music is very cultural and very deep and fun to listen to no matter what. Very interpretive too. I'm not quite sure what anyone would be looking for in a sountrack like this, but I am sure anyone who buys it will love it! It also good to use for dance warm ups, dance recitals, or anything else having to do with dance, considering it was written for people to dance to anyway. Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very exciting and unique music - must be heard!!!, August 5, 1999
By
This review is from: Mystere (Audio CD)
I believe Myster is one of the most exhilarating shows I have ever seen. I grew up in Ct. and saw live Broadway for years. However, nothing I have ever seen is as entertaining and as exciting as this show - this show must be seen. The music is simply exciting, a wonderful surprise and perhaps one of the best written scores I have ever heard. The musicians who did our show in Vegas did it with the same energy as the first time they performed it and they were celebrating it. This is truly a must see/hear show!!! My eyes could not see enough of all that was going on. The music brings a sense of excitement that is a perfect fit for this show.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outdated, March 6, 2004
This review is from: Mystere (Audio CD)
Rumeurs, Birimbau, and Caravena are no longer used in the show. The other songs are still in the show, but two of them have been altered: En Ville and Rondo.
I recommend this album to those who have attended a performance of "Mystere" between 1993-1995 when all of the songs from this album were in the show and none were different. This album is a very strong and emotional compostion, though, due to its outdated nature, the album lacks some of the emotion of the show. Egypte and Ulysse are stronger in this album due to the fact that they contain choirs. This album is interesting to listen to if you have the more current "Mystere, Live" album.

5.0 out of 5 stars The original sound, May 2, 2000

"elyjar" (Perth, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mystere (Audio CD)
I really like "Mystere" and consider it one of Depere's best works. Anyone who has seen the show will tell you the live performance is simply awesome. The same can be said for the music. This CD is far more surreal than any other Cirque CD to date. All 9 tracks that are featured also rate as some of the most melodic and dynamic pieces of music cirque has ever produced.

The music can only be dismissed as being new-age at the very first listen. If one dwells further into it's multifarious depths, you will uncover an aura that surrounds the music like the surrealism and mystery of a lucid dream, taking you beyond the boundries of infintity, to a world where anything and everything is possible, our world that is "Mystere".

Like a flower,

'Mystere' has bloomed in the desert,

it's multicoloured petals illuminating the world.

A miracle, perhaps?

Look more closely.

Beneath the sand and dust,

the flower has grown roots to drink hungrily,

from the deep richness of the soil.

It's beauty is a tribute to the countless souls

which have irrigated the desert with passion.

They are the inspiration which will nourish the

flower so that it can continue to bloom,

perchance forever.

This CD has got some really beautiful music on it. The music is energetic, graceful, surreal, and extremely meditative. This is my absolute favorite CD, and i especially like to use it for dance warm-ups - it's an excellent resource for any choreographer.

Let Mystere sweep you away!

This review is from: Mystere (Audio CD)
The music of Mystere is just about the best mood music on the market today. I play this music endlessly while writing and haven't gotten tired of it after 10 months. If your looking for something to show off a high end sound system you can't beat this album!
