This review is from: Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares (A Bird is Singing) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The 80-minute show was recorded during their 1993 tour in Bulgaria, Poland and Norway. Some footage is from a concert in a church in Norway; the audience is never seen, and applause rarely heard. Some footage is outside. Slow-motion 'artsy' footage is used a lot, from the fancy jewelry of the singers to dancers at a wedding to iconography inside a church to candles (all with overdubbed voices). I wouldn't call it a "concert film;" you get more of a sense of 'emotional feeling.' There is no narration nor background given; do a search on 'ethnomusicology' and the name of the choir and your eyes will be opened to the background of this (excellent) music. The film is quite 'beautiful' in a western sense; it doesn't inform you about the original contexts and meanings of the songs. But you can sure enjoy it at a surface level.
