"The Mysteries of Fishing and Flight" is at the same time immediate and timeless. This collection of intimate poems engages the reader in part because of the authentic nature of the author's voice. The pieces reference familiar domestic scenes and nature in its detail. But it is what the author does with the detail that is so powerful; she shares her emotions and makes them ours. Her juxtaposition of words creates a poignancy without becoming depressing. One comes away from the first read thinking, yes, that is life as it is lived and felt. But the collection demands many more readings.
