1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this book!! Not historically accurate
If you are looking for a book with any sort of historcial accuracy this is NOT the book for you. I found it to be one of the most shocking books I've ever had the displeasure of reading. There are hundreds of mistakes in this book.

If you are looking for information of the REAL Isis, the one from Ancient Egyptian history then please don't buy this book. In modern...

5.0 out of 5 stars Isis, Isis--Ra! Ra! Ra!, February 22, 2000
This review is from: The Mysteries of Isis: Her Worship & Magick (Llewellyn's World Religion and Magic Series) (Paperback)
This book could be subtitled: "Anything You Ever Wanted to Know about Isis, But Didn't Know Where to Find it..." There's a LOT of information here, from clothing and divination to mythology and history. The information is presented in an interesting and quite readable manner and there are tons of illustrations. If you have believed that Isis was solely an Egyptian Goddess, Goddess of Love and the Great Mother, this book will set you straight, showing you Isis as Goddess of Healing and Magick, Sun and Moon Goddess, Goddess of the Stars and Earth and much more. She is associated with Gods and Goddesses of Scandinavian, Roman, Celtic, Greek and Asian pantheons. I highly recommend this book for the student, worshipper and researcher of Isis.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of its subject, June 18, 2001
This review is from: The Mysteries of Isis: Her Worship & Magick (Llewellyn's World Religion and Magic Series) (Paperback)
In my reviews I tend to criticize Llewellyn, but publishing this book is one of their better moves recently.

DeTraci Regula knows a lot about her subject, and the book is thoughtfully and beautifully written. There's a lot of information presented here, and it's presented in a clear and direct manner. She teaches well, but avoids being didactic.

The various aspects of Isis are examined in a very readable fashion, and many excellent exercises, prayers, and rituals are included. This is a book of great depth, and the more time you spend with it, the more you will get out of it. I am rereading it now and I am astonished at how much I missed the first time around.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this book is Ms. Regula's writing style. She seems to invite you into the book and walk with you through the chapters; it is almost as if you were visiting a temple of Isis and she was your guide and tutor. She has a lot to say and she says it with grace and warmth.

I would recommend this book very highly, both to those who are already acquainted with the Goddess of 10,000 Names and to those who are simply seeking information about The Lady of Words of Power and her worship as it continues today.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine book about Isis, March 1, 2001
This review is from: The Mysteries of Isis: Her Worship & Magick (Llewellyn's World Religion and Magic Series) (Paperback)
It is difficult to review this book. It is excellent and a must for everyone who - for whatever reasons - is fascinated by the figure of Isis. Since I am one of them I just had to recommend it. But, to be fair, there are aspects I miss in this book. For me, an important aspect of Isis is her role as a fighter against evil. The central myth about Isis describes her fight against the evil Set, who not only commits the cut-up murder of Osiris but even molest the child Horus. In both these cases Isis intervenes and saves Osiris as well as defend Horus. Unfortunately the book somewhat downplays these aspects of Isis. This probably has something to do with the fact that the book partly is inspired by New Age philosophy, which is often quite non-dualistic in its worldview. But, on the other hand, it is a quite encyclopaedic work, where the reader will get information about a lot of aspects of the Goddess. And it has many wonderful pictures... So in spite of the fact that I miss an emphasis on those aspects of Isis that is quite important for me I really enjoyed this book. I can very much recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Resource for Isian Worship, Highly Recommended, September 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mysteries of Isis: Her Worship & Magick (Llewellyn's World Religion and Magic Series) (Paperback)
Set up as a day in the temple of Isis, each of the twenty-four chapters corresponds to a different hour of one day and one night. They are then dedicated to portraying a different aspect of this unique goddess, chapter by chapter, and to the various facets of her worship. Years of study and love of the subject reflect within the pages of this book. The author shows the influence of Isian worship as it spread from ancient Egypt to the temples of Greece, Rome, the Far East and into Northern Europe. Clear presentations are given for constructing rites, invocations, for making ritual tools and robes for use in the modern day; including valuable Isian correspondences of symbols, stones, plants, scents, metals and colors. From her earthly home along the banks of the Nile to the star Sirius, or Sothis, known as the Home of the Soul of Isis, we are given a glimpse of the universal appeal and influence of this ancient goddess. Ms. Regula's book provides a vibrant, unique portrait of goddess centered worship based on sound historic research and modern day magickal practice. Since I first read it two and one half years ago, I have used it as a reference again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must have for anyone interested in isian religian, or not, May 23, 1999
This review is from: The Mysteries of Isis: Her Worship & Magick (Llewellyn's World Religion and Magic Series) (Paperback)
i bought this book because it fell off a shelf at me. it is wonderful! clear, concise, easy to understand...yet all without losing the poetry of the worship of isis. this book explores isis in all her forms, so it connects to many other cultures and goddesses as well. (isis worship was imported as far north as ireland and germany with traders and raiders) even if you are not interested in egypt or egyptian religion you will find the ideas and rituals moving and useful. if you do have any interest in isis, you simply must get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful!, October 29, 1999
This review is from: The Mysteries of Isis: Her Worship & Magick (Llewellyn's World Religion and Magic Series) (Paperback)
One of the best books I've read in a long time. Unlike many other "god/dess" specific books she wasn't at all purly historic. She really delved into everything that Mother Aset is. I wouldn't give up my copy for the world :O)

By A Customer
This review is from: The Mysteries of Isis: Her Worship & Magick (Llewellyn's World Religion and Magic Series) (Paperback)
The Mysteries of Isis is one of the best books published on Isian Magick. detraci Regula explains it all in an easy to understand manner which is beneficial to beginners and advanced students alike. She tells you how to make various instruments detremental to the workings of Isian Magick, important dates, and some basic spells. She also includes information on where to find items you may need. Regula will bring you to temples of ancient times and make you feel as though you were really there.

As a practioner of Isian Magick, I reccommend this book to everyone interested in Isis and her magick... wether you want to become a practioner or just learn about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for., January 1, 2006
This review is from: The Mysteries of Isis: Her Worship & Magick (Llewellyn's World Religion and Magic Series) (Paperback)
I absolutely love this book! She gives you lots of facts about how the original priests worshiped Isis and then gives you advice on how to use that in a modern way. Oodles of stuff to keep you active like recipes, rituals, great chants, meditations and how to craft your own ritual tools. Truly a great and essential book if you are drawn to Isis and are looking for a way to bring more of Her into your life.
