This review is from: Mysteries & Myths of the 20th Century [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a pretty interesting collection of videos covering twenty "mysteries and myths of the twentieth century." The claim that these are stories that can now be told "for the first time" is not exactly accurate, since most of the facts in these cases are already public knowledge, but I actually learned something about all of the topics addressed here, including some I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about. Each tape contains two twenty-five minute segments, so there is enough here to fuel your curiosity and entertain you for several days. The following is a list of the topics covered in each volume:Volume One: Mata Hari Spying in World War I and The Mysterious Death of the Red Baron The stories based on known facts are all quite good, especially those in volumes seven and ten. Where the producers begin to flounder are the segments dealing with paranormal phenomena. The stories on the Loch Ness monster, ghosts and aliens are pretty weak and ignore evidence I would have been sure to include. Such disappointing presentations are fortunately in a minority here. For myself, the fascinating stories covering verifiably real yet mysterious events such as the downing of KAL 007, accompanied by contemporary pictures and video of the people and places involved, makes this a box set well worth having. If you are only interested in a few of the topics addressed, the tapes can be bought separately. |
