I had heard great things about the Adventures in Odyssey series but this set was our first exposure. I enjoy listening to the stories and they have good values and lesons inserted into them but many of the stories involve murder, death, stealing, kidnapping, tying up friends to keep them from getting a treasure first. Really advanced themes for my 7 year old who was the intended audience. He enjoys listening to them all the same so I gave them 4 stars. I just ordered the American History Set, I hope we will have better luck with that! I would say these would be more appropriate for a 10+ audience.

This collection of mysteries from the Adventures in Odyssey team is excellently done. Superb voice actors and stirring sound effects make this collection one to savor. Join Mr. John Avery Whittaker and the kids in the midwestern town of Odyssey as they use their wits and rely upon God to assist them in unraveling complex webs of deceit, betrayal, greed, and, of course, mystery. My favorite episodes are as follows:

1. "The Secret Room": When Mr. Whittaker and Tom Riley discover a skeleton of a murder victim in a locked room at Whit's End, they decide to investigate. This story deals with the poison of greed.
2. "Waylaid in the Windy City": When Mr. Whittaker and Connie Kendall take a trip to Chicago, they become embroilled in a sinister plot engineered by a diabolically old enemy. A computer with military secrets, the appearance of some familiar characters, and a kidnapping are just a sampling of the intrigue that awaits in this suspenseful story.
3. "It Happened at Four Corners": While on a road trip, Bernard Walton, (Odyssey's resident window washer), and Eugene Meltzner, (a computer genius), are given a mysterious treasure map purported to lead to an underground river of gold. Will they work together to find the treasure, or will their desires for wealth turn friend against friend? This story is unforgettable and has a twist ending.
4. "The Mysterious Stranger": When a young man visits Whit's End, he claims to have lived there as a young boy. However, Whit's End was never used as a house. Could the man be insane, or could his reactions be the result of a long buried secret?

These are just a few of the delights that await you in this compelling collection. Happy listening, and God bless you.
(Please look for my Christian fantasy young adult novel, Crimilia, published by Tate Publishing, which is scheduled to be released in April or May. Thank you).

We used these on a long driving car trip. I bought them for our 9 year old son to listen to but my husband and I liked them also. My son kept asking to listen to another one. I wouldn't suggest for smaller children since some are a bit suspenseful and scary, but my son loved the mystery of them, and they all had a great lesson to learn at the end.
