The Shroud of Turin has been a fascinating and controversial source of mystery for centuries: the most studied textile in history. Is it really the cloth that enwrapped the body of Jesus Christ immediately after his crucifixion, or is it a fraud created hundreds of years later?
The Mysterious Man of the Shroud, a documentary narrated by distinguished actor Hector Elizondo, explores this question in exhaustive detail, through interviews with the many scientific investigators who have made the Shroud their personal quest. Specialists in such wide-ranging areas as anthropology, textiles, spectral analysis, photomicroscopy, DNA, carbon dating, bacteriology, history, art, and such are consulted. One of the most impressive techniques employed in the movie is 3-D computer graphic imaging, used to generate a haunting three-dimensional figure of "the Man of the Shroud." Can anyone or anything conclusively prove (or disprove) the Shroud's authenticity? Perhaps, the film suggests, the Shroud's real message is not about science, but about the passion of Christ.
