5.0 out of 5 stars The Mysterious Adventures of Foy Rin Jin, December 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mysterious Misadventures of Foy Rin Jin: A Decidedly Dysfunctional Dragon (Hardcover)
This is a clever and different story about a very different dragon. It moves along nicely to a surprise ending -- a surprise more in your reaction to the ending than in the ending itself. I think the bottom age rating is too low, however. Instead of 4 it probably should be more like 6. And the top age could be anything from there on up.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not JUST for little kids!, January 23, 2000

I've been passing this book around to "kids" of all ages! Age doesn't seem to matter because Jim Friedman has written a book that appeals to folks who are looking for something light, but with a message that the young kids can "get." The older ones enjoy being reminded of Shel Silverstein's work. With hi-tech madness all around, a water-spouting dragon who turns out to be a hero refreshes and uplifts. As a read-aloud book, it's a nice one to read at bedtime - better to have pleasant dreams. Thanks Jim!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read It Aloud Book!, December 22, 1999

This review is from: The Mysterious Misadventures of Foy Rin Jin: A Decidedly Dysfunctional Dragon (Hardcover)
Each holiday season I choose a book to read aloud at several of our local public libraries. This year I chose The Mysterious Misadventures of Foy Rin Jin because I found the story both touching and funny--an unusual combination. Children, parents and librarians were all very enthusiastic about this book, and I got a tremendous reception! I loved reading it aloud because of its wonderful use of language. I heartily recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars great illustrations, December 12, 1999

I always look for books by Patti Stren. Her drawings make the books she illustrates, and the books she also writes are even better. She draws (and writes) with inventiveness, charm and imagination. I highly, recommend this book, and suggest FOR SALE ONE BROTHER, another book by Patti Stren.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind twister, February 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mysterious Misadventures of Foy Rin Jin: A Decidedly Dysfunctional Dragon (Hardcover)
A water spewing dragon is a mind twister for both an adult and a kid. I loved this children's tale and plan on sending it to the kids I know. The illustrations are wonderful. It's the kind of book you can read to a child several times in different voices --put on a show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look what each of us can do to make this a better world., October 31, 1999

This review is from: The Mysterious Misadventures of Foy Rin Jin: A Decidedly Dysfunctional Dragon (Hardcover)
A feel good book about a young dragon with a problem....he spits water, not fire, making him the target of name calling and mockery. When he runs away to another town he discovers that he is a hero, not a villan.
