5.0 out of 5 stars Is this the last of Hugh Corbett?
That is a question I'm waiting to find out because the way this book ends it looks like it might be. He reaches the end of his rope with the king's political maneuvering and he walks out on his king. I certainly hope this isn't the end of Corbett. This is an excellent series and this was a great book. The action takes place in London this time. Corbett finds himself...

3.0 out of 5 stars Another Corbett novel.
This book isn't bad, but isn't of the quality of the early Paul Doherty books about Sir. Hugh Corbett. I bought it as I have been reading the series for a long time now, but felt that it was fairly obvious who The Mysterium was.

I don't think the last couple of books in the Corbett series have been very good, but will probably stay with it until the series...

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this the last of Hugh Corbett?, July 4, 2010
That is a question I'm waiting to find out because the way this book ends it looks like it might be. He reaches the end of his rope with the king's political maneuvering and he walks out on his king. I certainly hope this isn't the end of Corbett. This is an excellent series and this was a great book. The action takes place in London this time. Corbett finds himself in the middle of a deadly prison riot in the beginning of the book, and then people get violently murdered. The more he digs, the more he thinks it's connected to 20-year old murders where it was thought that the murderer left England and now seems to have returned. He delves deeper and deeper into the morass, and finds out things that make him realize that he's dealing with at least two or maybe more murderers. As the bodies start to pile up, he puts the pieces together and figures everything out which results in an explosive ending. This was a page-turner of a book, and I really enjoyed it. Please Mr. Doherty don't give up on Hugh Corbett.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent series about a troubled time, May 15, 2010
This review is from: Mysterium (Sir Hugh Corbett 17) (Hardcover)
Excellent series about some terrible times in the development of England from an remote offshore island to the major world power in 1800's Too few historians, in my opinion, have grasped the fact that a number of England's medieval rulers were men and women of exceptional intelligence. Dr Doherty is not one of them,

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good read, August 10, 2011

I'm always amazed how good a writer Doherty is. At first I thought the book began slow but the details of a good complex story line emerged and grabbed me totally. There's less action than I initially expected but rich essence gave it a more rewarding read. I would definitely recommend this for any Doherty or amy historical mystery reader.
