Not Up to Par,
By Mark Baker (Santa Clarita, CA United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Mystery Off Glen Road (Trixie Belden #5) (Hardcover)
When a fierce storm blows through Sleepyside, it blows a tree into the just completed clubhouse. Now the Bob Whites must figure out some way to get the money to fix it before winter comes and ruins everything inside. When Brian donates the money he had been saving to buy Mr. Lytell's car, Trixie and Honey work overtime to come up with some way to repay him. They hit upon the idea of patrolling the Wheeler's game preserve. But when Trixie begins to suspect that a poacher is on the loose, the girls may have more then they can handle.First, let me say that I absolutely love this series. I've been reading it for over 15 years. But I have never liked this book. The plot just moves too slowly for this action oriented guy. Plus, I've never found the story believable, even when I read it as a kid. Many fans love this book because of the great character interactions. I will certainly grant that there are some wonderful character moments, and if that's what I'm in the mode for, I certainly check this book out. It's not my first choice when it comes time to reread a Trixie, however. If you like Trixie, you'll want to read this book and form your own opinion. However, if you are new to this wonderful girl detective, start with the first four. They are much better books to get you as addicted as I am to Trixie and her friends.

My Favorite Trixie Belden Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Mystery Off Glen Road (Trixie Belden #5) (Hardcover)
Of all the Trixie Belden books I have read, this one has to be my favorite. I read it out loud to 4 year old sister and my mom, and they both enjoyed it as well. It is a very complicated book, but I could still grasp it, as could they. The Bob-Whites clubhouse has been damaged in a big hurricane. Trixie's eldest brother, Brian, wants to buy the materials to fix it up again with the money he earned to buy a jalopy. The others all say that they will earn the money somehow, and for Brian to buy his car. But he insists on paying for the materials. Trixie has an idea though, which she tells only to her best friend, Honey Wheeler. She will give her diamond ring which Honey's adopted brother Jim Frayne gave her. The only problem is that the ring is still in the bank. She must convince her parents that she has a good reason for wanting to wear it. So she pretend to be in love with Honey's cousin, Ben Riker who is visiting for the Thanksgiving holidays. Her father takes the ring out of the bank for her and she gives it to the man who ownes the jalopy as security until they can earn enough money. To be able to buy the car from the man they get jobs as gamekeepers. But while they are out patrolling in the forest they find a dead deer, strange footprints, and one wheeled bike tracks. Is a poacher lurking around in those woods? They will find out soon enough!

I've read them all - I own them all. Trixie Belden has been one of my favorites since I was very young.
