Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-5-- In search of costumes for a surprise birthday party for their grandfather, Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny find a portrait of a beautiful young woman wearing a stunning necklace. Curious, they ask their grandfather about the picture's history. He relates how the necklace, specially crafted for their grandmother, was stolen without a clue, and the youngsters are determined to find the missing piece of jewelry. This series entry remains faithful to the bland writing style and convenient coincidences of the originals. The slightly dramatic plot encourages the characters to use some investigative skills but never forces them into dangerous situations. While they are shown to have grown up a bit in the black-and-white illustrations scattered throughout the chapters, their personalities will be familiar to those who have followed their escapades through the years. Fans will not be disappointed with this latest adventure. There are, however, inconsistencies bet-ween the text and cover art. --Jana R. Fine, Clearwater Public Library Sys tem, FL

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, April 7, 1999
By A Customer
This book is so neat! It is a great mystery story and is fun to read. Since this book is part of a series, you might expect all the books to be boring, right? Wrong, some are actually really good! I think this is the best of the series that I have read so far! Read this, you won't forget it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Alden necklace (a kids review), November 6, 2005
I think this book is about 4 kids that go up into their grandfathers attic to look for things to wear on their grandfathers birthday. When they find out that somebody stole Mr. Alden's wife's necklace. My favorite part of the story was when the adventure began. It was very exciting. I think ages 7 and up should read this book.
