Great series,

This review is from: The Mystery at the Johnson Farm (Elizabeth Gail Revised Series #1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I first read this book, as well as the whole series, back when I was a kid in the 80s. I would highly recomend this book/series for any preteen girl. There is a good mix of suspence along with Biblical principals. This book is a good reminder that God loves everyone, even the kids that no one wants. They are not beyond His care. It also shows the power of prayer and the fact that nothing is impossible for God. This is an excellent book/series.

I hated reading growing up but when I was confined to my bed in forth grade, my mother bought me the entire sereies. I developed a love for reading and sometimes would stay up half the night just to read "one more chapter". This series is great. It taught me about loving others and other great lessons from the BIble. I have these books on my shelf just waiting for my daughter to read when she is old enough.

I realy liked this book. Its about a girl named Libby who is a "wellfair kid". She has a little trouble at firs liking the Johnsons but soon shes very happy with them. The Johnsons taught her about the love of Christ. I couldnt stop reading the series. Im on book #5. I also like it because it is a mystery series! :)

I actually have a different version of this book, a very nice reprint with beautiful artwork of the 1978 edition that came out in 1994.
I couldn't find that edition on Amazon however, so I decided to leave my review here. This is a very nice story with a Christian theme about a young girl in foster care who has been jaded and hardened by her previous treatment both with her natural parents and in the system. She comes to a new family -The Johnsons- determined not to love them or love her new home as she is sure that soon she will be forced to move on as she has been so often in the past. Right away though her defenses start to crumble and she longs more than anything to belong to this family and be claimed by them as their own. However a mystery develops in which it appears that Elizabeth is doing harmful and wrong things until the Johnson's are nearly forced to send her away. Thankfully the mystery is solved and all is well. This book also provided one of the most unlikable characters in a YA book I've ever seen in the form of Brenda Wilkens. I kept wanting to reach through the pages somehow and slap her. I know this book is only the first in a long series of Elizabeth Gail books, but as much as I enjoyed reading this book, I'm not sure yet that I'll read any of the rest. The conclusion of this book felt like a good ending to me.

I read all these books when I was a little girl. I started in the 3rd grade and would beg for the next book as soon as I finished. I am now buying them for my daughter who is 7, (very good reader she also likes babysitters club), because I loved them so much as a child.
Completely clean and great values! There are a couple parts that tug a bit at the heartstrings... like someone passing away or hearing about a child's background before adoption. The series is written in a positive light though even when it touches lightly on a hard issue. Other then that, yes there are some suspensful parts in the other books, I never felt scared though and I was a pretty sheltered kid. Basically it has a plot, lol. Anyway, I'd recommend this series to anyone, and can't wait to introduce it to my daughter this summer.

This isn't a value you should teach kids.,

I identified with Elizabeth, I really did. Let's just say her life mirrored mine in a lot of ways. But this book teaches misfortunate children that all of their sufferings are their fault bacause they are inherently evil because of the so-called "Original Sin." Do your kids a favor and buy them a book that doesn't teach them that a beautiful, natural act of love is sinful, or teaches them to follow a hypocratic doctrine like a sheep. This series teaches the wrong things about christianity, and was one of the influences that led me away for years.
