I'll cut right to the chase:

1. The graphics are good except for when characters are depicted, and then they look like they were cut out of a magazine and pasted on the background. I was wondering why they had done so

2. The puzzles are way too easy. Not once did I have a difficult time solving any of them, which include a couple of sequencing and general mind-bender-types. Overall, the game can be completed in 2 hours or so. On my first try, I got through it in 2:20.

3. The collecting of items is by far the biggest downfall of this game. You go from room to room on the ship clicking a 100 things, which you collect, then when you go to the next room, for some reason you lose all the items you just collected. And none of the items can be combined in the inventory. Even after completing the game, I don't know why I had to click 15 items per room. You will spend a good deal of the game clicking EVERY OBJECT in each room. And the cursor doesn't change so it is boring.

The one thing about this game that merits a positive response is the plot. I thought the game was an interesting premise, with a good ending. That made it ok, but other than that, the rest of the game is pretty terrible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother, January 2, 2010

I ended up just quitting after a while out of boredom. There are a lot of other 'hidden object' games that are more interesting, and more challenging.

If you went into every room and just clicked on anything obviously out of place, then you win to the next room. The objects aren't even really 'hidden', as they're mostly in plain sight. Once in a while the action (going to another room) is connected by some really silly dialog.

Good idea, some nice graphics here and there, but they got lazy on the puzzle aspect.

The Mystery of the Mary Celeste
This game had an interesting premise about the mystery of the ship Mary Celeste. The game has good graphics and an interesting story line but that's about it. Puzzles were much too easy and some of the objects to locate were too tiny to locate. No challenge and very little suspense. And what's worse, it's extremely short. It appears that the game designers couldn't decide if this was a third or first person game. A far superior game for your money is Return to Ravenhearst.Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Hidden Object Game for Beginners, December 27, 2009

Mary Morehouse is one of the guests aboard the Mary Celeste II on its maiden voyage. Aware of the mystery involving the first Mary Celeste she is a little nervous - justifiably so as strange things happen soon after the Mary Celeste II sets sail. Mary must solve several mysteries in order to save the Mary Celeste II - and herself.

"The Mystery of the Mary Celeste" is a good hidden object game for beginners (experienced hidden object game players might find it to be a bit too easy). There are eight chapters (although they aren't labeled so it is not always easy to tell when one chapter ends and another begins) and since most of the action takes place on board the boat, there are limited areas to search, so play can be a bit repetitious. The game is untimed, which makes for a nice leisurely game and plenty of hints (you click on the compass for hints and once it stops spinning you can use it again) although you rarely need to use the hints. Sometimes after finding all the objects in a scene, you need to use some of those objects to solve a problem before you can move on. There are also seven mini-games within the puzzle, although you can skip those if you wish. There is also a log book that keeps track of all the dialogue in the puzzle which may give clues to the mystery.

For the most part "The Mystery of the Mary Celeste is an easy, quick (about two hours of playing time) hidden object game, but it has a few features that make it stand out from other hidden object games. First, while some of the objects you need to find are nonsensical (for example a dinner plate, Q-tips, iron, crumbled paper), they are cleverly hidden. Many hidden object games have you find items in rooms that are filled with clutter - in this game they fit into the scenery which makes them more challenging to find. Also, the mini-games are more varied than in most hidden object games which rely heavily on jigsaw puzzle type games - of the seven mini-games, only one is a jigsaw puzzle type game. While the storyline wanders a bit too much at times, the creators do an excellent job of incorporating elements from the disappearance of the real Mary Celeste. For the most part the graphics are okay, but are outstanding in a few places - mostly some ghostly appearances and a sailing ship. The music adds much to the atmosphere of the game. Unfortunately, the ending is a bit too drawn out and the final puzzle is very easy to solve.

"The Mystery of the Mary Celeste" has a few flaws, but isn't a bad way to kill a couple of hours.
