Another brilliant poet goes unnoticed,

This review is from: The Mystery of Max Schmitt: Poems on the Life and Work of Thomas Eakins (Paperback)
There are several world class poems in this anthology which thematically cover the life of Thomas Eakins. If you like Walt Whitman, Rilke with an American flavour, Rowing, Painting then this anthology is for you. There are quite a few poems which transcend their subject which is why I think Dacey is worth reading. As for myself I hardly read any contemporary poetry. I find it too personal, too self indulgent and rarely transcends the imediate here now. There is something mystical about a few of these poems. All are well written and well honed. They read nicely out loud. But poetry is personal, I accidently came across this trove doing a search on Max Schmitt, the subject of one of Thomas Eakins masterpieces. I read a few lines and was drawn immediately. I ordered the book and was not disappointed.
