5.0 out of 5 stars Eclectic fantastic!
i'm one happy monkey listening to this cd! delightful toe-tappin', hand-clappin', & head-slappin' at the wonderful sounds... this cd has not left my car since i got it. the songs are smart, sweet & funky, my friends. buy this cd & make yerself happy! ear-candy with some intelligence to back it up...most so-called soundtracks are nothing more than a bunch o'...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I'd expect...
Based only on seeing the ads and having some idea of the plot, this soundtrack is not what I'd expect at all. "All Star", the Smashmouth tune used in the ads, is the only song with a high energy level. "The Mystery Men Mantra" is quirky, but otherwise forgetable, and "Night Fever" (by the Bee Gees) and "Disco Inferno" (by the...

i'm one happy monkey listening to this cd! delightful toe-tappin', hand-clappin', & head-slappin' at the wonderful sounds... this cd has not left my car since i got it. the songs are smart, sweet & funky, my friends. buy this cd & make yerself happy! ear-candy with some intelligence to back it up...most so-called soundtracks are nothing more than a bunch o' pop crap thrown together to sell the newest hit artist whatever record company's put out the cd wants you to buy, sometimes with no relation to the film itself! here the ever-delightful karyn rachtman (the force behind the soundtracks to pulp fiction, romeo & juliet & boogie nights to name a few) concocts another brilliant mix of musical styles & ideas. this cd allowed me to find great acts like moloko & spy & to further appreciate mark mothersbaugh (of devo fame), fatboy slim (here under the name o' freakpower), &, of course, the under-appreciated violent femmes... am i gushing? just buy the freakin' cd already so i'll shut up! as flaming carrot sez: "the wild shall wild remain!"

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good, mainly one good song, June 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mystery Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I thought this soundtrack was okay. It was sort of like the Godzilla soundtrack, one or two good songs but the rest aren't too great. If you're mainly just buying the cd for Smashmouth's song I guess you could find a few other good songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Soundtrack, June 18, 2006
This review is from: Mystery Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
To be honest, I bought the soundtrack because of the remake of Gangsters by Citizen King (Originally done by The Speicals), which has a very slick sound to it.
The soundtrack itself has a vast array of genres compiled together, ranging from disco to lounge to rap.
Definately a soundtrack to throw on when you have a lot of people over.
I gave the review a 4 because I just don't enjoy the flagship single from the album: All Star

I bought the soundtrack after recently viewing 'Mystery Men.' I can't believe I had never heard about this movie until this year! It's great! The cast has chemistry, with individual comedic styles coming together to blast you into a weird, funny world. The soundtrack only reminds me of the funny scenes I'll never shake out of my mind. My favorite song, by Citizen King, was so appealing that I bought their album, too. Even if you haven't seen the movie, the album is worth buying. It's an amusement park ride of rhythm and beats that you may never hear together again.

You know how soundtracks can be dissapointing a lot of the time? You buy a soundtrack that you think is going to be great, and you like two or three song on it. Well this is NOT one of thoes!! Every song on this soundtrack is great! This is a very fun CD, great for jammin' to in your car or if you need a "pick-me-up". Get it, you won't be dissapointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything!, May 23, 2001

This movie is one of the best comedy movies ever made! And the soundtrack is just the best! It aint no average soundtrack. It has a cool mix of old '70's disco songs and todays music, like "All Star". There are a lot of other music in the film to that aint on the soundtrack, like KC and the Sunshine Band with "That's the way", and I must say: IT ROCKS! Buy this soundtrack TODAY! You aint gonna regret this, I promise you that!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars No Longer A Mystery, May 9, 2000

I had to wonder why so many of the good songs heard in the movie were omitted from the soundtrack on audio cassette, but then I remembered that movie soundtracks are often vehicles whereby nameless artists become known. How well-known can depend on the movie to which the soundtrack applies (though not always). So it's no longer a mystery to me that Wild Cherry's 'Play That Funky Music (White Boy)' and A Taste of Honey's 'Boogie Oogie Oogie' were omitted from the compilation in favor of tracks by artists like Freak Power, Spy, Citizen King and those perpetual soundtrack-surfers, Moloko. Nevertheless, the soundtrack redeems itself with its inclusion of the Trammps, the BEE GEES, and 'Invisible Boy'-Kel Mitchell's catchy foray into rap backed by the M.A.F.T. EMCEES featuring Romaine Jones. Enjoyable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I'd expect..., July 28, 1999
This review is from: Mystery Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Based only on seeing the ads and having some idea of the plot, this soundtrack is not what I'd expect at all. "All Star", the Smashmouth tune used in the ads, is the only song with a high energy level. "The Mystery Men Mantra" is quirky, but otherwise forgetable, and "Night Fever" (by the Bee Gees) and "Disco Inferno" (by the Trammps) should be familiar already. Several of the other tunes are catchy, if a bit slow, and may appeal to you, but don't seem to mesh either as an album, or with what I know about the film (although perhaps I will have to eat my words after this weekend). If you don't have the soundtracks to "Rushmore" or "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" yet, I recommend them over this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars summer party tunes on Mystery Men record, June 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mystery Men: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
They added the Freak Power song, "No Way," which is Fatboy Slim's other band in Britain and the track kicks ass - "Throw your hands in the air, throw your hands in the air!" The Dub Pistols remix is another great electronica track. Kel Mitchell from Nickelodeon makes his debut with a great hip hop anthem, "Who Are Those Mystery Men." Check it out, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Can't wait to see the movie.
