Rip Off!, November 5, 2003

We usually love Dreamcatcher games, but were really disappointed in this one, the one reason being that it won't play on our PC. You can find absolutely no help for this problem. The only thing we could find out is that some PCs will play it and others won't. We have kept this game hoping that Dreamcatcher would make a patch for this game. I think they owe it to the many people who have spent their hard earned money on this game to find that they can't play it. Save your money!

If you have Win Xp do not buy this game, game will crash is not stable in XP it will not be worth the trouble. If you already have it :-( write an email to tech support describing your problem they will offer you a credit or you can exchange the game.

XP compatible? Not!, October 27, 2003
This review is from: Mystery Of The Nautilus (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I picked this game up because it was so cheap... figured it would be worth a shot. Well, the system reqs stated that it was XP compatible, but, after loading the game I found that it would only crash every time I tried to click on the dsk-top icon. I unistalled/reinstalled it 3 or 4 times (using the ME, 98, and 2000 options), but got the same result. I even tried opening this game using XP's own compatibility feature (for ME and 2000 titles). Still nothing. I then went to Dreamcatcher's website. No patches or updates; hardly any tech support at all. I then went to the forums on Dreamcatcher's adventure site and, lo and behold, I saw about 15 posts from other XP users who were having the exact same problem: the game was simply not compatible with XP. There was a response from a Dreamcatcher tech support moderator... their suggestion? Remove two or three of the most recent Microsoft XP Service Packs in order for the game to function properly in XP. Say what? They want me to mess with the security and general well-being of my PC simply so I can play this game? Fat chance! Attempting to return this title was a joke. The local brick n' mortar store was out of stock of this item and wouldn't be getting any more in stock (because it's an older title). They refused to give my money back because doing so would "violate the DMCA." Whatever. That was most certainly not the Best Buy I've ever made... I ended up asking to store manager to throw that copy away since I had no use for it. And now I'm out the money for that game. Good thing it was a gift. :)
